Google "Acom splitter"

I do not endorse the product, nor the use of 6KW for amateur purposes, but it
may meet your use case

This may be a neat way to increase power over time. Start with one
KPA-500 and work your way to 2 or 3. Not sure what the cost would be. I am
really enjoying my KPA-500, a KPA-500x2 or KPA-500x3 would be really neat.

What do you think Eric/Wayne?

[Elecraft] K3 Tune Button

2010-10-24 Thread Georgens, Tom
When the TUNE button is engaged, are there settings that determine how
the radio responds? On my radios, depressing the TUNE button will
display the SWR. I would rather it displayed the frequency. I thought
that K5ZD's K3 did exactly that when I used it at WRTC. Although
somewhat impolite, I occasionally sweep the band in TUNE mode as an SWR
check of the antennas. Not being able to see the frequency makes this
less convenient.

Similarly, if TUNE is depressed and I turn the VFO knob, the response
varies by band. Sometimes the tuning rate is fast, sometimes it is
slow, and sometimes the frequency will not change at all.

There must be a setting that controls this, but I have tried the manual
and could not find the answers

Thanks and 73

Re: [Elecraft] K3 needs survey -- firmware and application software

Outstanding suggestion. I would second this one. Even better if we
could change the settings

To address the limited display area of the K3, I'd like to see a simple
pc
application that will present a virtual K3 display on the computer
screen
and provide full-time display of:

shift (numeric)
width (numeric)
power
compression
mic gain
sub preamp
sub antenna selection
sub shift
sub width
AF Limit
AGC hold
AGC DCY
AGC SLP
AGC THR

(meant to be display-only and not to change settings, to be used in
conjunction with LP-Bridge so that the CAT port can be shared with other
applications)

[Elecraft] MCU LD

2009-09-06 Thread Georgens, Tom
Hello -

I am building a K3 kit and all was going well with the checkout and test
when I decided to download the latest version of the firmware. The
download failed and now the K3 displays "MCU LD" whenever it is turned
on. The K3 utility programs no longer can talk the to the K3. My
original PC was using a USB to serial cable and worked fine through all
the calibration steps. I used another USB to serial adapter that was
compatible with the K3 USB to serial software but it did not work
either. I tried yet another PC that has a native serial port, but no
luck with that as well.

In verbose mode, the utility program says it is sending ";" at various
baud rates and I presume it is getting no response.

I suppose it is possible that the serial port failed after working for
about 10 minutes, but it seems unlikely. All the boards seem to be
seated well and I doubt it is a connection problem

At this point, the K3 seems to have corrupted firmware, but it can no
longer talk to a PC in order to do a new download. Not sure what to try
next.

Any suggestions welcome
