Re: [Elecraft] CW Skimmer & K3

2012-11-28 Thread Henk PA5KT

Gary,

You need a KXV3A to have IF output. You them can downconvert the 8MHz IF
signal to audiofrequency with a box like the LP-PAN downconverter.

See http://telepostinc.com/LP-PAN.html

With the EMU USB 0202 soundcard you will get a nice bandscope for the
K3, but it also works with Skimmer.

You might ask on the reflector if someone has a used LP-PAN for sale as
a lot of people replaced their LP-PAN with the P3.

I am a happy user of the LP-PAN converter.

It is recommended to do the IF mod on the K3 if your K3 is older them
September 2009.

I'm always curious to try a new software & I thought CW skimmer looks
interesting. I'm wondering if anyone here is using it with their K3
and if so, what did you find was the best way to connect it to the
K3?

I have both the internal Realtek soundcard built into the PC
motherboard and I have a E-MU USB soundcard which has XLR & 1/4"
inputs for left & right. There's optical & S/PDIF inputs as well but
the K3 doesn't have those outputs.

Thanks,

Re: [Elecraft] FW 4.67 and K3EXREF

2013-07-06 Thread Henk PA5KT

I had the same. Finally I did read the release notes:

K3EXREF USERS MUST NOW ENABLE THE MODULE IN THE MENU: To do this, locate
the CONFIG:REF CAL menu entry and tap 2 to change the setting; flashes
XREF IN or XREFOUT. If you DO NOT have a K3EXREF module installed, use
the XREFOUT setting (the default). If you use the XREF IN setting
without a K3EXREF module installed, you may hear digital switching noise
on the 6-meter band.

I just realized that both my K3's running FW 4.67 are no longer locking to
the K3EXREF calibration signal from a Trimble Thunderbolt. Specifically, the
"REF CAL" config menu item does not show the flashing asterisk and moving
the main tuning knob does not show "LOCKED". I have had the K3EXREF
installed and operating properly with both rigs for at least a year.

The Trimble Thunderbolt provides the 10MHz calibration signal to both K3's
though a MiniCircuits splitter. After checking the power supply and output
levels of the Thunderbolt, which were nominal, I decided to see if the K3
firmware could be responsible, since I had fairly recently upgraded to 4.67.
Indeed, rolling back to 4.51 re-enables the normal "REF CAL" behavior!

Can anyone else verify this?

Hello K3 List

Asc mentioned, I had my K3 re-worked to bring it totally up today, including
630m.

After some help help from here, I am now operational.

So I just plugged my Leo B Precision GPS Reference Clock (dual) into the
ref-cal plug

It's set for 10-megs

It "seems" to me I "used" to see the Ref*Call pulsating. It's been 3 or 4
months since I looked, or had the rig.

Now I just see " Ref Cal" , in Config.

Did I forget to set something ?
Or is there a newer firmware in the K3 that alters how ref-cal works?

again, thanks. I am old.
