Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft CW keying mistakes using bugs - semiautomatic keys
Many thans to all, and a special thanks to KN5L for the oscilloscope traces I will insert a debouncer before the key input of my K3S. I have some MAC bugs with the mechanical debouncers, but on the Mac 1937 with debouncer seem to persist a bounces problems, and with the Mecograph the problem seem really a mess... So I have ordered the Jackson Harbour kit. [Elecraft] Elecraft CW keying mistakes using bugs - semiautomatic keys
Dear friends, Elecraft K3S owners, now I am sure that the K3S is a CW transceiver suitable only for the use of paddles with its internal keyer or external pc keying. I had already noticed with the Begali Intrepid bug that the K3S introduced extra points that were not my manipulation errors. Today, using a spectacular and magnificent Mecograph mod. 3 of 1908, restored to maximum efficiency, in transmission at about 25 wpm, the Elecraft K3S, both in qsk and in vox, generates a lot of errors in transmission. It generate understandable CW. The same bug used on a Ten Tec Corsair II and a Cubic 102BXA is instead perfect, with an excellent cw and without any errors. There is and has been certainly a problem with the key input circuit on the K3S. I hope that the same design and construction error will not happen again on the K4 Elecraft. Otherwise it will certainly not be a bug user transceiver. It is a lot better an IC7300, which my friend IK4DCT uses with his two Mecographs without any problems. I had this problem a pair of years ago. The same problem, exactly, that could be solved only changing the switch and the annex internal cabling. You should require it to Elecraft. Re: [Elecraft] SP3 A/B Switch Problem
I had the same problem about one years ago. I have two SP3 loudspeakers, on on each receiver or both speakers, ore one receiver with the K3S audio effects that use both loudspeakers. The switch scratched when changing channel and it attenuated the audio signals. The italian service obtained from Elecraft USA the switch with the connected cable and we had to change it. The real problem seemed a part failure, but we had changed it after only little more than two years of use. Re: [Elecraft] New bug, popping on dah side
I have an Elecraft K3S with last software release. I use it with my Begali Intrepid and my Vibroplex Presentation mod. 1964. Always, I make at least 5 qsos/day, at speed 15-22wpm Same firmware release ago, I had problems with the Vibroplex Presentation, I dont remember exactly the message on the K3s screen but it give an error when manipulating the bug. After setting better the Vibroplex Presentation, with better dots contact regulation, as suggested by GM4GZQ "Adjusting your bug" article, the problem has been solved. Only with one of the last release of firmware the problem returned, but now, with last 5.67 version, I have no problem with Vibroplex or Intrepid. The Intrepid anyway have a lot less bounces on dots contact than the Vibroplex. The K3S doesnt like very much contact bounces, anyway if you reduce them there are not problems at all. Re: [Elecraft] WHY NOT 700HZ FILTER FOR K3/K3S?
It is a better thing to have a roofing filter, i wouldnt like to use only the dsp with the 2700 ssb filter. I have the 500hz 5 pole filter (and the 200hz 6 pole), but I find that sometime I have a nicer audio tone with a wider filtering. 1000hz is too wide for me, sure it is good with rtty, but for cw with our noisy and crowded band is too much. So I think that a 700 hz Bessel filter, or a better (wide at the base) gaussian 600hz sure would have a better audio cw in reception. -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] WHY NOT 700HZ FILTER FOR K3/K3S?
Why Elecraft doesnt produce a 700hz filter for cw ragchewing? It doesnt need to be an 8pole Inrad, but can be a 5-6pole Elecraft, a 700hz or a 600hz gaussian, even better. [Elecraft] P3 S-meter
On the P3 on CW the signals seem always lower than on my Elecraft K3S (even 2 S-unit). This morning I tested the P3 S-meter with my HP8640 signal generator and I found that on every band the 50uV signal result in a perfect S9 on both K3S and P3. Now I think the real question is to introduce a correct averaging of the signal. I tried it but it doesnt solve. In the past I read here that the difference is caused by 1hz window of P3 when on K3 you have 200 or 500hz windows. It is not so, with a steady signal both units indicate S9 with 50uV. In the past I used on a home made superkeyer III a transparent adhesive sheet that I printed with a laser printer, with black characters, with great result. [Elecraft] a question to Wayne Burdick - K3S if gain
I need an info, and this time I thought "why not ask to the Elecraft nr.1 top tech?" If it is possible. On my Elecraft K3S, sn 10715, the if gain, or better the FLx GN, was setted 0 for FL1 (2700hz-5 pole), 4 for FL2 (500hz-5 pole) and 8 for FL3 (200hz-5 pole). I read somewhere that it would be better 0 for wide filter, 2dB for medium filter, 4 dB for narrow filter. What is better Wayne? Can I use on my great K3S 0dB-2dB-4dB? Or you prefer other settings? C op 99% of time... Second and least question for Wayne. Sometime I like to use my old Cubic Astro 102BXA, yesterday on 10 meters, with a bug. How can be that this rig, 35 years old, have the best agc and a great qsk even for today standards? Lot better than every ja rigs, but even more pleasant to listen than today greatest rigs in the world (Elecraft obviously) Can it be that audio derived agc (I think it have this kind of agc) is the best even today? -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Second speaker just turns off K3S
Dave, you dont make any mistake. This happen also to me. I have a K3S with two Elecraft SP3 speakers and P3. I havent understood why the K3S change from 2 SPKR to 1 SPKR. But now I know that when the right speaker cease to work i should open CONFIG and reset it to SPKR 2 becouse it had changed to spkr 1. At first I though that it was rfi, but rfi doesnt change config menu, after I thought that it was reprogrammed when I opened WIN4K3Suite, but it happen even without using this program. I haven't understood why it happen. Re: [Elecraft] k3S usb software silenced sidetone and no rf out
I have found that setting the config parameter PTT-KEY at OFF-RTS, the K3S keyed by TR4W software returned to transmit with rf ouput and with sidetone. I make the mistake of not taking note of the previous value, but setting OFF-RTS seem to have solved. Can it be that N1MM+ software changed this parameter in the K3S config? -- Sent from: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] k3S usb software silenced sidetone and no rf out
After installing N1MM contest program, before I used only my TR4W software, trying to transmit CW from N1MM or TR4W simply commutate RX-TX (qsk or vox) on the K3S but it doesnt put rf power out nor give the sidetone - that before I used from the rig, driven via the usb cable. Rf power is normally out and sidetone also is ok only when keying the K3S with my paddle or keys. I think that N1MM has changed something on the USB/com3 of the PC or on the rig config (but this seem normal, I even recharged the firmware this morning). What do you thing about this problem? Anybody can help me? Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Hex Key worth?
Scott, the hex key is a copy of a N2DAN on an hex base, produced by Bencher after they bought the right of N2DAN paddle. Sure it is a great key. Vibroplex/Bencher now sell il for 324 $, I think this is adeguate value for this first class iambic paddle. I own a great N2DAN paddle, so I think to know the quality of your paddle. Ian, That is not possible without producing a new display with an icon for that. The display is not a programmable element. [Elecraft] K3S losing swr-wattmeters indications on tx - please help
I own a great K3S from a pair of months. It work great, dx, qsos, contest (just worked CQWPX, 1200 qsos). Just after bought it, sometime on cw transmission the swr-rf indications, the moving black dots, gone all blanked, all on the swr and on RF indications. I thought about rfi problems, but it happened even with dummy load. And with no swr on antenna. With atu inserted is seemed more rarely happen. This morning I have this problem happen at least on 14-18-21-24-28mhz, keying the rig with my bug, only with long dash and not with dots string. It is a rainy cloudy day, but I think that doesnt matter :) When using the paddle with internal keyer I havent the problem. It seem to happen only when keying at least 2-3 seconds long. When it happen, with the two measurements blanked, the rig really continue to transmit - I see regular power on my external Bird 43 wattmeter. Somebody had this problem and know how to solve it? [Elecraft] 40m low power
I have built my new Elecraft KX1 with great attentions to Elecraft manual instructions. The transceiver now work in a wonderful way. A lot of nice qsos... But something should be wrong: on 20 m the rig output power is more than 4 watts, on 40 m band the output power is only 2 watts. Can somebody suggest me where I maked a mistake in assembling it? The rig is without power modification. Many thanks.
