Is there a list of the factory default parameters

[Elecraft] K3 DVR memories

2009-05-24 Thread Jay Rodaman
I am able to access the bank 1 memories through N1MM and

figured how to access the Bank 2 memories also with N1MM.

however when I access the Bank 2 memories (N1MM F5-F8)

the F1 key then uses the Bank 2 K3 memories. That might not be clear

but what I want to end up with is N1MM F keys 1-8 accessing the K3

memory banks.

Anyone successful with this?

I've been able to get this to basically work with macros like:

F1 CQ,{CATA1ASC K31;SWT21;}{CATA2ASC K31;SWT21;}
F2 Exch,{CATA1ASC K31;SWT31;}{CATA2ASC K31;SWT31;}

...etc...

I think that should work for SO2R, but haven't had a chance to really
test it with two K3s yet ("CATA..." is supposed to be sent only if the
radio (1 or 2) is "active"). I haven't tried any of it in a contest yet,
so not sure how reliable it is. This morning, it wasn't working for me
at all initially - nothing would happen when I used the function keys.
After futzing around a bit, it suddenly started working. I'm not sure
why.

What did you mean by "ESC cancel memories"? Did you find a way to have
the Escape key stop the DVR playing? I was going to rely on the
footswitch for that, but it'd be nice if there was a way to have the
Escape key send a command to the K3(s) too...

The following may well be obvious to most, but I know of
at least three K3 owners who've been "caught" by plugging
mono plugs into the (stereo) speaker jack.

There is a "gotcha" involved in the use of external speakers
with the K3. It's addressed indirectly on page 20 of the D2
version of the manual in the 2nd paragraph under PHONES
when it reads "... if you use a stereo plug at the external
speaker jack but is easily glossed over by the reader.

Many / most monaural external speakers have a MONAURAL
plug on their cords. DON'T plug one of these (monaural) plugs
into the speaker jack. It's configured for stereo and the sleeve
of the mono plug will short the ring portion of the stereo jack
and thereby short one channel of audio. I ... along with several
others ... have experienced a failure of the audio amplifier IC on
the front panel board due to one channel being shorted by the
sleeve of a monaural plug. It seems to take many hours of
operation under this condition to cause the IC to fail ... over a
year in mine and another's case. The IC is -NOT- an easy change!

Just remember that one audio channel is on the tip and the other
is on the ring of the plug and connect speakers in this manner
using -only- a stereo plug. My particular "trap" was forgetting that
using a stereo "Y" merely moved the "trap" six inches away from
the jack. (;-)

As others have pointed out, speakers from the two-radio field are
good choices, and the CB isle at truck stops usually sell nice
speakers. Mine are Barjan 320-701's. Radio Scrap 21-549B's
are OK, too.

Re: [Elecraft] KRX3: configuration for second antenna routing

2009-01-20 Thread Jay Rodaman
It would be great if all you had to do was route a bnc jumper from RX ant
OUT to the AUX ant on the sub-
Receiver and in that way when the sub was active it would use the receive
antenna for diversity
And when inactive it would be the main receiver REC antenna.

Brian, I am with you. I can connect to either of the SO-239 connectors on
the back by routing the small piece of the TMP cable from J43 on the KAT3 to
the KRX3 connector, but my BNC is not connected to anything. I was told on
this forum that there is an antenna connection to the KRX3 through one of
the multi-pin connectors that allows all three antenna connectors to be used
but I have not spent the time to understand just how or the limitations
involved.

Connected the way that I am the ANT button selects the main receiver and
transmitter antenna normally, but selects the KRX3 antenna when B Set is
active. I hope that this helps, but a tutorial from one of the Elecraft
guys that really knows would be very welcome to me.

2009-01-19 Thread Jay Rodaman
Just finished my K3 works great
Interfaced with the microkeyer
which reads the frequency and keys cw fine.
Now I need to configure N1MM to put it all together.
Created ports as follows in Router
2=Radio
3=Ptt
6=foot switch
8=winkey.

Can someone help me get N1MM configurer to
put all this together, right now I am only interested
in keying the radio for CW using the N1MM memories for
contesting
Any help greatly appreciated

[Elecraft] Microkeyer

2009-01-19 Thread Jay Rodaman
Just setting up my new K3 with sub receiver.
I have the Original Microkeyer and got the matching cable set for the K3
Question is:
There are two connectors that I do not know where to connect
1.RCA female marked "INHIBIT"
2. Female mini-plug marked "SUB RX"
Where do these go?
Thanks for any help

[Elecraft] Receive antenna

2009-01-19 Thread Jay Rodaman
Just getting my K3 up and running. I have a K9AY loop and would like to

Have that as the receive antenna each time I change band to 160/80

Is there a way for the radio to remember this activity? Or do

I have to press the rcv antenna switch each time?

Comments appreciated.

BTW a million thanks to KR2Q for his masterful job in

Putting the thousand parts into one great radio for me

Jay
