Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Questions
Yes, the 2m module is a nice add-on; here at home, I use mine to drive transverters for 222, 902, 1296, 2304 and up. On 2m, with just 2w, I'm able to drive my SSPA to a full KW out (see the Oct 2012 QST article on the amp, or on the w6PQL web site). I do notice an instability on 2m, and hope Elecraft will address this when time permits. You won't notice this on SSB or FM, but in CW the carrier frequency jumps around a few Hz in a random fashion. You can also hear this on the KX3 LO signal in another receiver nearby tuned to the same frequency; it's barely detectable at 6m, and not at all on 10m and below, but it does make 2m CW sound less than pure. For me it was a great buy, and a replacement for older and less capable radios...I especially appreciate the ability to net transverter local oscillator offsets, and many of the other features. [Elecraft] KX3 2m module and problems
Elecraft seems to have done a nice job on the transverter module for the KX3, just installed/tested one here. Pretty satisfied, but I'm wondering if anyone else notices the strange frequency hopping in cw-in-ssb mode on 2m? Tone tends to warble a bit (hops frequency about 10 Hz). Doesn't seem to be there quite as bad in regular cw mode, but still there. Just detectable on 6m, and not apparent 28MHz and below, so this may be related to the stability limitations discussed before. That said, I'm hoping there will be a firmware upgrade to address this, as it make CW almost unusable on 2m... [Elecraft] kx3 cw anomaly
When operating cw, I noticed that when I lock the kx3 in transmit with the XMIT switch, there is a carrier bleed-through between keystrokes. I've done the TXCRNUL adjustment with a spec-an, and it's way down there, but it's noticed and is still strong enough to be annoying locally. However, if I use the vox feature to initiate a transmission, there is no carrier bleed-through. Is this something that could be addressed with a firmware update? [Elecraft] KX3 transverter offset
Let's try this post again, looks like the text was truncated... Can't seem to get the XVn OFS function to work...anyone else out there have it working, or is this an unimplemented feature? [Elecraft] KX3 power drops while transmitting
Not sure why the body wasn't posted, so trying this message again: I use the KX3 as a driver for transverters, and I have the power set at around 2.5w in transverter mode; occasionally, the KX3 will suddenly drop in output power to a couple tenths of a watt while in USB. Turning the radio off then on clears it, but of course this is an undesirable 'bug'. Anybody else have this happen, or know of a solution? Perhaps it is an ALC problem? [Elecraft] KX3 cw key-up bleed-through
I posted a question a few days earlier about the KX3 and this particular problem...thanks to those of you who responded. I was asked to post the solution, so: The issue was sending CW using VOX or MOX, the key-up signal was strong locally. I measured this with a spectrum analyzer at about 60 db down from key-down carrier. It was in spec, but locals complained a bit. Elecraft suggested I adjust TxCRNULL, and this worked, improving the suppression to about 80db down. This is the same adjustment used for carrier suppression in SSB modes. Initially the procedure in the manual did not work, and it turns out the adjustment must be made in CW mode only. It will not work in CW-REV or transverter bands, only in CW on 160-6m bands. The adjustment is independent for each band. Use the VFO knob to adjust the number, and toggle between PRE and ATTEN, there are two numbers to adjust. 73, Jim __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] kx3 cw key-up carrier
I notice that on key-up in CW, there is quite a bit of carrier coming through, it doesn't appear to be completely cut off. Is there an adjustment or calibration setting for this? [Elecraft] KX3 CW message
OK, new user here...I'm using the KX3 as a driver for microwave transverters, I can't figure out how to get a recorded CW message to cause the radio to transmit the message unless I use CW VOX, which causes relays in the attached equipment to chatter. When I try to send a message after pressing XMIT, it just goes back to RCV mode. What have I missed? __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
