[Elecraft] Which wattmeter do I believe?
Just finished building KX-1 #1207 with 30m board and ATU. Nice little rig! After adjusting C9 on the KXAT-1 per the manual, I decided to compare the power output measurements obtained via the internal power sensor, a DL-1 dummy load + DMM, and using my OHR WM-2 QRP wattmeter. BTW, the supply voltage is 12.5v and I substituted a 33-ohm resistor for R30. Output before I changed R30 was about 1-watt lower across the board. Here are the final measurements, as built: Band DL-1+DMM Internal WM-2 20m2.6 3 3.7 30m3.7 4 4.7 40m3.4 4.14.3 Which wattmeter should I believe? I tend to think the DL-1 plus my Fluke digital multimeter would give me the most accurate reading, but Also, no matter how I fiddle with the spacing on L3, 20m output is always 1-watt less than on 30 and 40m. I guess this is in line with what other folks have reported. tnx & 73, John Pfeifer - WL7M ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] FS: HF Packer Amp
I have for sale an HF Packer 35W homebrew amplifier parts kit. This amp might be a good project for those of you who want a little extra power but who don't need a full 100 watts. I have another HF Packer Amp that I used with my K-1 for pedestrian mobile. This is an unbuilt parts kit. It includes a pre-drilled chassis and heatsink. You can read about it at http://www.hfprojects.com. This is the 2004 version designed by K5OOR.. You can get the documentation and building instructions from the "Download" page at the above website. Asking $110 plus postage. Please contact me off list. Thanks & 73, John Pfeifer - WL7M ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] Ultimatic Keying.
Another solution for getting Ultimatic keying "inside" a K2 would be the PK4 keyer from Jackson Harbor Press. It's very small, only 1" x 1.5". Jackson Harbor's contest keyer, the Island Keyer II, also supports Ultimatic. Both of these keyers are available directly from Jackson Harbor Press at: http://home.att.net/~jacksonharbor/ham.htm or from Morse Express at: http://www.mtechnologies.com/jhp/ Jackson Harbor also has an explanation of Ultimatic keying at: http://home.att.net/~jacksonharbor/ultimat.txt I haven't tried either one of these keyers, but I do have the older PK3 (inside my Palm Radio Code Cube) and like it. Unfortunately, it doesn't do Ultimatic. 73, John Pfeifer - KL0WN ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] K2 or K2/100 + amp, QSK?
Been following the thread on running an external amp with the K2 or K2/100. I was wondering how connecting an external amp changes the QSK behavior. Or, are people only using an external amp for SSB? [Elecraft] OT: Any midwest CW nets active
I brought my K-1 with me on a trip to Wichita, Kansas. My intention was to listen in on some of the midwest CW nets. So far I've tried the Kansas QKS net, the Missouri Section Net and the Texas Net. Haven't heard a thing at 7pm central time, which is the time listed on the ARRL web site. I have been able to copy two or three QSOs in progress each evening I've tried but, so far, no apparent net activity. Does anyone know which midwest CW nets are active on 80 meters? You can reply to me directly, if you'd like to save some bandwidth on the reflector. Thanks! [Elecraft] K2/100 for Emcomm Use?
Hello all, I just completed the ARRL Emergency Communications course and it started me thinking more seriously about emcomm. I searched through the list archives and couldn't find any comments about using the K2/100 for emcomm HF work. It seems it would make a good HF emcomm rig. Compact, low current draw during receive, etc. I would like to hear comments from anyone out there using a K2/100 as part of an emcomm "go kit" or for portable or fixed emergency communications. Re: [Elecraft] Portable vertical antenna
I've been using the Vertical Black Widow Fishing Pole Antenna (VBWFPA) made by WA3WSJ. Works great for me! [Elecraft] K1 Pedestrian Mobile
Had a blast operating /PM with my K1 during last night's Spartan Sprint! I fastened my 20-ft black-widow fishing pole vertical to a pack frame. The K1 was hanging on my chest in a small camera bag, putting the front panel in clear view. Tuned up just fine with the internal tuner using a trailing counterpoise. I hiked around Spruce Cape on Kodiak Island. Sending CW is a bit of a challenge while walking but good practice for head-copy. Worked stations all over the "Lower-48" including K4THL in Florida. That's 4,050 miles great circle route. Not bad for 5W pedestrian mobile.
