[Elecraft] USB vs RS232 for K3/P3
I have K3 radios which have been updated with most K3S add-on's, including KIO3B, but I am not currently usingthe USB capability. I use RS232 instead. What am I missing that is worth making the change to USB? I have the cables to do it, but the current configuration surely works. I have a passing interest in digital modes FT4/FT8, but I have not gotten that function connected properly. Would changing to USB eliminate any need for Line IN/OUT connections to solve the digi problem? The current cabling is a mess. I love these radios! 73, Steve, K4FJ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] P3 Questions
Hi, Until recently, I have not been interested in the P3 because I didn't think it would be useful for my way of operating. Now, I think I am missing something quite useful but I need to get educated on it. I am interested in some suggested reading which covers the capabilities and how those capabilities would help me in contesting and dxing. For example, can I see a signal blip, identify it, move my K3 to it, etc. Many more questions but I am sure someone has already documented the advantages. I have two K3's which are ready to accept a P3. Thanks in advance. [Elecraft] K3: Receive Ant Question
Am I correct in assuming that the Rec Ant input is disconnected from the main receiver input upon transmit by way of a relay? If so, can I further assume that connecting a beverage, or other receive antenna, to the Receive Ant input will cause no harm to the main receiver upon transmit? In other words, is a relay enough protection? I ask because I would like to rule out needing an external protection device when using a beverage antenna. I run full legal power. Thanks in advance. 73, Steve, K4FJ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] Audible relay click
Hi, I have K3 #290, purchased used last year.? I hear an audible click which I presume is a relay when I tune from 14085.08 to 14085.09. This click is not coming through the speaker. I recall reading something about that on this reflector some time back but I don't recall the reason or discussion, if any. The K3 seems to work just fine and I love it. Thought I would ask here before asking the Elecraft folks directly. 73, Steve, K4FJ K3 #290 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] RTTY Dual PB
My question addresses RTTY (FSK D) and the Dual PB capability. I understand the theory of what is being done, but I have yet to see the advantage of Dual PB on an RTTY signal as opposed to normal passband. I am curious if any of the RTTY ops have seen a definite advantage of using Dual PB over normal passband tuning. 73, Steve, K4FJ K3 #290 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] K3 Mouse wheel tuning answer
Special thanks to K6KR and AB7R for jogging my memory. Control of the mouse wheel tuning speed resides in Writelog.ini and not in K3 firmware. Other contesting software probably controls it also. 73, Steve, K4FJ ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] K3 and the mouse wheel
I like to use the mouse wheel for tuning CW, but I find the tuning speed increments too large for rtty. Is there a way to tune it in smaller increments? [Elecraft] Update confusion
I have K3 #290 and I like to keep it updated. I have the latest K3 Utility and currently have 2.02/1.77 which is the latest that I can find when using the utility. The website says there is a K3 firmware release dated 7/22/2008. How do I find it to download it? I have not downloaded any Beta stuff. Also, I downloaded the rev D manual and it is great. In the Config Menu of the Rev D manual is PTT RLS which is not in my K3 menu. Is that something in the Beta releases or the 7/22 release? There is something very confusing about this, at least for me. 73, Steve, K4FJ **Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Read reviews on AOL Autos. [Elecraft] K3 manual question
Hi, Page 18 of my K3 manual shows the breakout for the RS232 connector. It says pin 6 is RTS. I thought RTS was on pin 7 in the standard DB9 configuration. Second question: The manual is clear that pin 1 of the Aux I/O connector is for FSK IN. Does that mean that I run my computer's RS232 pin 3 (txd) or 4 (dtr) through a NPN level adjuster, or either? Third question: I am confused because I read (in the manual) that Config: PTT-KEY settings address only OFF or DTR/RTS or RTS/DTR. No mention of TXD. Does KEY relate only to CW and not FSK/RTTY? Just another non-computer jock trying to keep up. This reflector, Elecraft, and the K3 are just great. 73, Steve, K4FJ K3/#290 **Gas prices getting you down? [Elecraft] K3 Rtty question
I am using my K3 for RTTY and have the FSK and PTT lines from the Aux I/O connected to a Com port through the usual NPN interface. It works fine. I note that the setting of Config:FSK pol (0 or 1) makes no difference on transmitted FSK. I am using FSK D as the data mode. What am I missing? BTW, I think Elecraft support is super. 73, Steve, K4FJ K3/#290 **Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars.
