[Elecraft] Elecraft SSB Net for Sunday 20m needs a new frequency
Current schedule is SUNDAY 1800 UTC 14.235 MHz Today was the third Sunday in a row that there was strong digital activity on 14.235 and 14.240. I called for the net half-way in between, but hear nobody (of course it is Easter). Shall we start moving up from there? Any suggestions? Otherwise, I'll have to pick a frequency, and I'm sure it will be busy. :-| Thanks all. [Elecraft] K3: Need 6kHz filter for wide AM BC reception?
To receive AM shortwave broadcast (at bandwidths wider than 2.7), do I NEED the 6 kHz roofing filter? The price list seems to say I only need it to transmit AM (which I don't intend), but it isn't completely clear. The manual doesn't mention it. [Elecraft] Elecraft SSB Net - changing Sunday time to 1800
We met briefly today at 2100 on 14.235 with the following check-ins: WA7BOC Roger WA8ABM Mike KM5Q Windy W6HPK Steve Conditions were poor. We decided to change the time to 1800 z because conditions tend to be better earlier in the day. Please make note of the new time. I have a new suggestion -- If you have a specific topic or problem to pose to the group, say so when you check in. [Elecraft] RE: Another source for Anderson PowerPole type connectors
Paul mentioned problem when using large stiff wire. I found a local source of EXTREMELY flexible wire in sizes to #8 and larger -- a car audio shop that sells those terrible hyper-bass systems. Nice wire!! Windy KM5Q I have been using PowerPoles for the past few years with mixed results. Clearly, when large gauge, stiff wire is used on the smaller PowerPoles, some other means of securing the cable and connector is necessary. ... [Elecraft] Re: Calling the ELECRAFT Users Groups on SSB starting Sunday
Today was an big contest day, so results were limited, but we did give the Sunday net a go. Check-ins on 14.235, Sunday March 2, 2100-2142 UTC were: WA7BOC Roger KM5Q Windy N8GU Bob WA6OCP Neal K3 running 10W W4WFB Roy K3 WB8YQJ Don K3 Windy and Bob had a useful conversation about roofing filters, but contest QRM was too much. About the Sunday frequency -- We propose now to move to 14.325. Less contesters and DX'ers in that higher part of the band. Again, I checked the ARRL net list and I don't see conflicts. If you have better info, please let us know--today was not a day to check for net activities. So here's a new draft of the net schedule, with ONLY the 20m (pending) frequency changed. Thanks all! [Elecraft] Calling the ELECRAFT Users Groups on SSB starting Sunday
I've gotten about 10 big thank-you's for starting this group. The Thursday evening kick-off had 6 check-ins but lots QRM. I got favorable responses for having separate K2 and K3 groups, so those with specific concerns aren't left out half the time. I am taking a more diplomatic approach now, giving equal recognition for K2/3 users and postponing the split until the group decides (or not). We still have to confirm find our frequencies. Since Europe has broadcast QRM on 7195, I've changed that frequency to 7185, noted below. If you know of conflicts on either frequency, please make a better suggestion. I did a partial search on ARRL net list and did't see conflicts, but -- ? - ELECRAFT USERS GROUP ON SSB SECOND DRAFT SCHEDULE - Feb. 29 2008 MONDAY THURSDAY EVENINGS (day according to local time N. Re: [Elecraft] Calling the K3 USERS GROUP on SSB
I've gotten favorable replies from a few people. Bob VE3UK suggested a frequency for the 40m net. I inserted it in the schedule below. I propose we start next Monday. Meanwhile, listen around 7.195 MHz in the evenings and if it sounds like a bad spot, please propose something better. On Sunday afternoon, if you listen to the 20m General band, locate some clear frequencies, make note of net freq's. We can then settle on something that's generally open. [Elecraft] A K3 SSB net?
I see that there is a CW net, but regarding vital matters like case colors (and roofing filters), wouldn't it be more efficient and enjoyable to chew a rag on phone, instead of loading up our screens? Shouldn't we be USING our own stations? and be prepared for when all else fails? How about establishing 40 and 20m frequencies (+/-5) and a schedule of Sunday afternoon and evening times, plus 2 weekday evenings -- not for a formal net, yet, but to see what comes together. I have little experience with nets (except from 1970's), so I'll open it up for suggestions. Afterall, we're RADIO operators.
