Re: [Elecraft] Location of VFO B on the K4

2019-05-25 Thread Kenneth P Alexander
I'm sure somebody make a custom CNC titanium VFO-B wrist rest...right after
they get their 2 lb custom CNC VFO knobs to market! 😜

[Elecraft] KX-2 Remote

2019-05-13 Thread Kenneth P Alexander
I'm considering buying a KX2 for remote operation; CW and digital. The
radio will be set up in VE3. I am retired and living in Thailand. I can't
get a Thai license because Canada and Thailand do not have a reciprocal
licensing agreement.

I'm planning on using Win4K3Suite to control the rig and will have the
power supply and remote computer on a UPS. That said, I'm sure there will
be occasions when I will have to shut down and re-start the KX2, but this
seems to be impossible because the 2-button on/off switching can't be done
remotely.

Is it possible to "hotwire" the KX2 so it's ON all the time? Then I could
re-start it remotely by putting the 12V supply on a USB controlled relay.
I'll be living 12 time zones away and need this to be very reliable. The
setup will be in a friend's summer cottage and he's only there a few times
a year.

Many thanks in advance.

Re: [Elecraft] Will there be a K4?

2019-03-25 Thread Kenneth P Alexander
Repeat customers and customer loyalty are the foundations of any successful
business. Their word of mouth recommendations are pure gold to any
manufacturer, so engaging them in these discussions costs little and pays
big dividends.

>From what I have read, many of the wish list items are features already
found on rigs from other manufacturers, so some of those bases are being
covered.

That said, polling non-owners is always worthwhile...maybe at hamfests if
you can keep the syncophants from crowding the table.

What would I like to see? A K3s or a K4 are well beyond my means. I'd
like an improved KX3:
1. Dedicated audio inputs/outputs for digital modes. Built in sound card.
2. An ethernet port for easy internet remote control, including a way to
turn the the transceiver on and off, plus remote access to every other
function (I say this not knowing whether that's possible already now)
3. A method of setting digital mode audio levels that doesn't leave the
operator wondering why the meters aren't working.
4. Move further away from the mindset that your customers are hikers and
backpackers. You serve them very well already.

If my theoretical KX3s grew to the size of a K2 that would not bother me.

[Elecraft] K2/100Package For Sale - Price Reduction

2018-11-21 Thread Kenneth P Alexander
I have a K2/100 for sale. I acquired it a year ago from another amateur.
He demonstrated it for me and I saw that it worked. I have not used it
since then. Included is:

- Elecraft K2/100 HF Transceiver with 100W amplifier and I/O module
- K2DSP internal DSP filter and real-time clock
- KSB2 SSB adapter
- KNB2 noise blanker
- K60XV 60m and transverter adapter
- K160RX 160M module
- External KAT100 automatic antenna tuner

It's in good condition and everything works. However, as I said I never
sat down and used it. Instead, I retired and moved to Thailand where I now
live. I wanted a K2 because it's on the Thai government's short list of
type approved transceivers, i.e., it doesn't cover 6m or 70cm, which aren't
currently legal bands here). Once I arrived I discovered that I can't ever
get a Thai ham license because Canada doesn't have a reciprocal licensing
agreement with Thailand. So the K2 is of no further use to me.

The equipment is still in Canada. My friend VE3EG, Keith is handling the
sale and shipping on my behalf. You can direct questions to me, but I will
turn things over to Keith once we have ourselves a deal.

I'm reducing the price for the package to Cdn $1,350 (about U.S. $1,017 at
current exchange rates). Shipping is extra and is based shipping from
Toronto to your QTH.

Many thanks and 73!
