[Elecraft] NAQCC Anniversaty Sprint this Tuesday Evening

2018-10-08 Thread Larry W2LJ
THIS IS OUR SPECIAL 14TH ANNIVERSARY SPRINT AND INCLUDES A GREAT PRIZE DRAWING
FOR ALL MEMBER/PARTICIPANTS.

DATE: OCTOBER 10, 2018 (The evening of Wednesday the 19th in North America.)
TIME: 0030-0230 UTC
BANDS: 80, 40, 20 (See the General Instructions page for suggested freq.)

SPRINT RULES:

Complete sprint rules including exchange details, operating categories,
scoring, and logging requirements should be reviewed at
http://www.naqcc.info/sprint_rules.html
.

MEMBERSHIP DATA FILES:

Membership data files for supported sprint logging applications are available
at http://www.naqcc.info/contests.html .
It is very important that you use the latest data file in your software. It is
available now for download.

LOG SUBMISSIONS:

All sprint logs must be submitted through our Autologger page at
http://www.naqcc.info/autologger.php .
Directly emailed logs are no longer accepted. Some significant updates have
been made to this page, including some automatic error trapping and correcting.
Please carefully follow the instructions given on the page for each of the
input fields.

Logging options and specific log formatting details can be found on the Sprint
Rules page at http://www.naqcc.info/sprint_rules.html
.

AN INTRODUCTION TO OUR NAQCC SPRINTS:

If you have been hesitant to give ham radio contesting a try you really should
consider our NAQCC sprints. Our sprints are specifically tailored to help new
CW operators get their first contesting experience. Our most popular operating
category is for using a straight key and this automatically keeps the CW speeds
relatively low. Additionally the exchange is simple and virtually everyone
operating in the sprint is more than willing to slow down or give repeats.
Once the sprint is over we make log submission easy with our automated
Autologger page.

Although scores are posted on our website and award certificates are issued,
the real goal of our sprints is not to win something. It’s to have FUN while
promoting CW QRP operating. EVERYONE who participates in the sprint is a
WINNER, and in keeping with this philosophy we have a drawing each month for a
nice prize that all of our member participants are entered into. It doesn’t
matter if you made 1 QSO or 100 QSOs, everyone has a chance to win the prize.

[Elecraft] Hey, guys and gals! There's a new QRP Sprint in town!

2018-08-24 Thread Larry W2LJ
We start the outdoor QRP Season each year with FYBO in February.
The there's a long wait until the Spring Classics - QRP To The Field and the
Cookie Crumble Contest. Then in the heat of the Summer the Bumblebees and the
Skeeters take flight. In the Fall we get nutty with our NoGA friends in the
Peanut Power Sprint, and then we pack it all away for the Winter.
Until now, that is! Now, thanks to Tim W3ATB we now have the Leaf Peepers QRP
Sprint, which is designed to get you out in the glory of Autumn, where the air
is crisp, the leaves colorful and the beauty of nature is breathtaking.
This sprint will take place on Saturday, October 6th from 1700 to 2100 UTC. For
all the details and to sign up for a Leaf Peeper number, please visit -
https://w3atb.com/leaf-peepers-qrp-contest/
So take a brake from raking and get on the air and enjoy the beauty of the
season!

[Elecraft] 2018 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt -Official Announcement

2018-06-11 Thread Larry W2LJ
The NJQRP Club is announcing the 7th Annual " Skeeter Hunt". This year, the
event is to be held on Sunday August 19th. It will be a four hour sprint -
from 17:00 UTC to 21:00 UTC (1:00 TO 5:00 PM EDT).

QRP stations who wish to be designated as "Skeeters" can get a Skeeter number
by requesting one by sending an e-mail to w...@arrl.net Please let me know if
you intend to operate from a state other than your home state as listed on QRZ.
Skeeter numbers will be issued from June 21st (the First Day of Summer) through
the day before the event.

Only Skeeter Number requests received by e-mail will be honored. This ensures
that I will not miss anyone's requests, especially those requested via social
media.(I tend to miss those!),

This year's theme will be "water - the breeding ground for Skeeters!" Operate
near any sizable body of water - lake, ocean, creek, river, bayou, stream,
brook, pond, etc, for an extra 100 bonus points.

As always the rules for the Skeeter Hunt can be found at
http://www.qsl.net/w2lj/

Once June 21st arrives and Skeeter Number requests begin to be honored, the
Official Roster can be found at

On Tuesday evening, April 11 (4/12 UTC), we will have our landmark 150th
regular monthly sprint.
We want to celebrate this event by giving away a prize worth $150 to one
member-participant!
But there is a catch, we will only have a prize drawing if we get at least 150
submitted logs.
You don’t have to be an experienced contester or a high speed CW operator to
participate.
Just get on the air, make at least 1 sprint QSO, and submit your log, and you
will be eligible for the prize drawing.
So mark your calendar and get ready!

[Elecraft] Skeeter Hunt is over - what now?

2016-08-22 Thread Larry W2LJ
I've been getting several e-mails - "How do you want my log?"

Short answer?

I don't! Please . no adif, cabrillo, csv files.

What I do want is your log summary. It' s real easy to send and I'll include
the following exmaple (mine):

Larry - W2LJ -TR23 - (Name, Call, Location)
Skeeter #13 - All CW - (Skeeter # and the mode you worked, CW/SSB/Mixed)
Single Op - (Single Op, Multi Op, Multi-multi Op)
Skeeter QSOs - 39 - (# of Skeeter QSOs)
Non-Skeeter QRP QSOs - 1 (# of Non-Skeeter, but QRP QSOs)
Non-Skeeter QRO QSOs - 1 (# of Non-Skeeter QRPO QSOS - NPOTA activators may
have had a lot of these)
S/P/Cs or NPOTA Designators - 25 (# of staes, provinnces, countries, NPOTA
entities that you worked)
Station Class Multiplier X4 (See da rules fror the categories)
NPOTA Bonus - 100 points (If you activated an NPOTA you get an extra 100
points! See, I told ya to!)

If you do the math correctly (gotta love spreadsheets and formulas!), you'll se
my total was 12,100 points.

Log summaries are due by the end of the Sunday before Labor Day. Please
remember to include your Soapbox comments and photos if you have 'em. I know
that a lot of us in the QRP Community "know" each other; but one of the best
things about these Outdoor QRP Sprints is to see how you operated and where you
operated from. Please feel free to share, they will appear on the Skeeter Hunt
Soapbox page.

I will do my best to post the scores on Labor Day and follow up with Soapbox
comments a week or so, later.

And once again, thanks to all of you who make this possible and thanks to the
New Jersey QRP Club for their sponsorship!

[Elecraft] Skeeters are flying today!

2016-08-21 Thread Larry W2LJ
The Skeeters are flying today! Thanks to all who signed up - I hope you have
great weather wherever you are, and a real fun time today.

The Skeeter roster can be found at:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KJWpvDDBZibCMqna_qGXF3Ayg8KdEw5f1N8K6ByGMe4/edit#gid=880964485

This year's rules (if you want a last minute review) can be found at
www.qsl.net/w2lj

Your log summaries and photos and soapbox comments are due by two weeks from
Midnight, tonight. Please mail them to w...@arrl.net

And I know I don't have to tell any of you this, as QRPers and portable ops
specialists are the most level headed Amateur Radio ops out there ... B UT
This is meant to be a fun event! Don't take any unneccessary risks or chances
that could put you or anyone else in harm's way. Should the weather turns iffy,
please always opt in favor of safety and caution. Family and friends ALWAYS
come first - Amateur Radio should be way, way down that list of priorities.
The wise Skeeter is the one who always knows there will be other days to fly!

[Elecraft] 2016 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt - NEXT Sunday!

2016-08-14 Thread Larry W2LJ
The 2016 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt is only one week away! Although it seems like a
lot of Skeeters are being hunted this year; assuredly the NJQRP Skeeters will
be out hunting only for fun!

I'm not going to bore you will the rules, you can go read those for yourself at
http://www.qsl.net/w2lj/

I did want to make everyone aware of two things, however. First, you still
have until next Saturday to apply for a Skeeter number, Remember, you don't
have to operate from the field to be a Skeeter; but it's SOOO much fun - why
would you ever not want to? Just send an e-mail to w...@arrl.net and you will
be added to the roster. You will get a confirming e-mail back containing your
Skeeter #. If you applied in the past, but did not receive an e-mail back from
W2LJ, you need to check the Skeeter Roster.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KJWpvDDBZibCMqna_qGXF3Ayg8KdEw5f1N8K6ByGMe4/edit#gid=880964485

If you don't see your call sign and name, then you will need to send another
e-mail

Secondly, after the Hunt, and you've recovered from all the fun you had - don't
forget to send in your log summaries. QSO by QSO logs are not necessary; but
photos, videos and soapbox comments are encouraged and are most welcome.
That's the other half of the fun of the NJQRP Skeeter Hunt - seeing how and
what your friends and QRP contemeporaries are doing.

I've tried to make the rules as simnple and self=explanatory as possible; bt
should you still have a question, please do not hesitate to fire off an e-mail
to w...@arrl.net

Happy Hunting!

[Elecraft] 2016 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt

2016-06-16 Thread Larry W2LJ
This coming Monday, June 20th is the First Day of Summer.

And, as we have done for the last 4 years, the NJQRP Club will celebrate by
issuing Skeeter numbers for the 5th Annual NJQRP Skeeter Hunt, which will take
place this year on the third Sunday of August, 8/21.

For 2016, the Skeeter Hunt is incorporating NPOTA, the ARRL's National Parks
on the Air program. An additional 100 Bonus points will be added to your score
if you activate one of the listed 481 National Park entities.
https://npota.arrl.org NPOTA fits right in with the express purpose of the
Skeeter Hunt, which is to get you and your QRP equipment out into the fresh air
and sunshine (hopefully) in order to have one heckuva a great time!

To register for a Skeeter number, simply send an e-mail to w...@arrl.net or
w2lj...@gmail.com - please state your name, call and from which state or NPOTA
entity yoiu will activate. If you want to activate an entity; and are not sure
which one, you can always decide that later. But for the purposes of issung a
Skeeter number, please list your state as a minimum, in your request. Please
note that Skeeter numbers are issued on a first come, first served basis.

Numbers will begin to be issued on Monday and a copy of the roster will be
posted to Google sheets. The link will be posted Monday evening.

The NPOTA program has been a huge success so far! QRPers are know for getting
out into the field and operating portable. Let's see how many NPOTA entities we
can "light up" on Sunday, August 21st!
