[Elecraft] XV222 Transverter Stability Issue

2014-03-08 Thread Lloyd Korb
I recently completed the assembly and calibration on a XV222 transverter. I
am using it with a K2.

When I finally put the top cover in place I noticed that the output power
was jumping around. Initially I thought that one of the connecting cables
were not properly seated or maybe the output cables to the wattmeter and
antenna were not tight.

I noticed that when I picked up the transverter, to move it, the power
output jumped around. Pushing on the top cover also made the power output
jump around.

When I removed the top cover the output was stable. I could push on the
chassis and it did not change the power output.

I thought that maybe the top cover was not making a good RF connection to
the rest of the chassis so I went back and cleaned and sanded all of the
mating surfaces. This had no effect.

As long as the top cover is not in place it is stable. For now I am just
running with the cover off.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

[Elecraft] Transverter Calibration Question

2014-01-26 Thread Lloyd Korb
I just finished building the XV222 and at Part VI - Filter Alignment in the
manual. Being a new user to the K2 I am not sure how to generate a
constant signal (carrier) so I can tweek the coils.

[Elecraft] K2 Push To Talk

2014-01-24 Thread Lloyd Korb
Has anyone come up with a simple fix to add an external PTT line to the K2?

I recently picked up a used K2 and just completed building a 222
transverter. I didn't realize that the K2 does not have a Transmit/Receive
switch. So, I will be hot switching, in CW mode. WSJT is not a problem as
there is a built in delay between when PTT and audio is outputted.

An external sequencer won't help as I can't get control of the K2 PTT line
in CW mode.

Any ideas besides W3FPR's fix?

Re: [Elecraft] 144XV construction experience?

2013-12-27 Thread Lloyd Korb
Allan,

I am in the process of building the 222 version. Just a word of warning
that I received in an email from Elecraft. Now, the caution about
disconnecting the antenna when transmitting close to the 222 antenna is
going to be a real PITA when working the contests! Removing during
lightning storms is a no brainer!

*One tip:The RF module usually has a depression in the middle, so if you
trim the thermal pad with scissors so it just fits within that depression,
it makes for a better clamping and improved heat transfer. Do not exceed
20w of RF output, and disconnect the antenna when lighting storms approach
or if you will be transmitting close to the XV222 antenna with another rig.*

Follow the instructions in the manual and you will be successful. Do the

Do not mix up the shielded inductors is the only specific warning that I
can offer. I have built many of the XV transverters.

 completed
the install of the K60XV mod / kit so that work on the K2 is already done.
