Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] Oppopsite Sideband Null question - Redux

2020-06-12 Thread Mark Forsyth
Hi,
Elecraft have a handy little utility called RxSbNull.exe which does the whole
process. All you need is an up to date KX3, an up to date XG3, a Windows
computer and the utility. It works like a charm. Turn the radio volume down
before you start it though otherwise it’ll annoy the hell out of you.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA-500 with Portable Generator

2019-03-07 Thread Mark Forsyth
That'd probably be fine.

The el-cheapo generators I refer to usually specify "modified sine wave" output
which when looked at on a CRO looks more like a square wave with slightly
rounded corners. Some or even most switch mode power supplies can cope quite
badly with a wave form that's more square than sine.

If you're thinking of using a generator at the cheaper end of the scale make
sure that its output is pure sine wave and NOT modified sine wave.

Re: [Elecraft] Heil Proset KX3 Element?

2014-12-26 Thread Mark Forsyth
G'day Carl,

If you get aggressive with TX EQ you can make the Heil iC element sound
pretty good. If you can get someone who knows your voice to listen while you
make adjustments you should be able to come up with settings that suit your
voice.

I started out with the settings outlined on the Heil All things Elecraft
page - it's at
http://www.heilsound.com/amateur/dsp-settings/125-all-things-elecraft and
with the help of another operator finally came up with the following :-

-16, -16, -06, +00, +06, +12, +12 and +09 for TXEQ.
Compression is at 25 and mic gain is high enough to have the fifth, and
occasionally the sixth, ALC bar flickering.

With those settings I often get unsolicited reports of very good audio.

Re: [Elecraft] KXPA100 et Smarttuner SG230

2014-04-09 Thread Mark Forsyth

I think that you may have misunderstood me. Set the menu item "TUN PWR" to
10W and then you can just press "TUNE" (hold XMIT) to output 10W to the SGC.
You don't need to set power to 10W - leave it at 100W or whatever you
prefer.

I have exactly the same setup except that I use an SGC237. Set tune power to
5W and use the tune button on the radio. Works a treat for me.

Re: [Elecraft] John Moyle Field Fay in VK

2013-03-15 Thread Mark Forsyth
I'll be around for a while on 15, 20 and 40.

It'd be good to work other Elecrafters around the place and to give my KX3 a
proper workout...:-)

Hmmm. Thinking can be a dangerous thing. It can lead to all sorts of
financial damage.

Although my KX3 is my first Elecraft experience, I've been following
Elecraft and their product line for quite a while.

It seems to me that the folks at Elecraft have pretty fertile imaginations
and a willingness to follow through with ideas and turn them into great
products. Given that, I'd suggest that they have at the very least discussed
future whizz-bangery and have perhaps even reached the "jotting down of
ideas" stage for their next radio.

Having said that I tend to be somewhat agnostic about radios. For my
purposes my F-817 was the best thing going for a very long time. It's now
been replaced by my KX3. Maybe at some time in the future a radio that suits
my operating style and needs better than the KX3 will come along and maybe
that radio will be developed by Elecraft. Hopefully it will be but only time
will tell.

Cheers,
Vk3ZMF

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Question

2012-10-13 Thread Mark Forsyth
Hi All,

I the doco that was packaged with my KXFL3 is the Installation Manual Errata
Rev A2-2 July 5 2012. I can't find the doc on the Elecraft web site,
however.

I short, it states :-

Page 1, Introduction, second paragraph, replace it with the following:

If you KXFL3 was supplied with either a factory assembled KX3 or a kit KX3,
it was calibrated at the factory. All you need to do is install it as
described below and enable the module as described in your KX3 owners
manual. If you obtained you KXFL3 module separately or are moving it to
another KX3, you must calibrate it as described on page 4 for optimum
performance.

Cheers,
Mark F...
