RE: [Elecraft] K3 Help

2008-07-05 Thread Mike N8XPQ

I am using COM 1 and it is the only one available in the drop down list of
the K3 utility. The streaming characters stop when I unplug the COM cable
from the rear of the rig. This tells me that the K3 is for some reason
sending a solid stream of characters that can be seen in the command tester
page. The firmware page continues to say K3 is not responding or unable to
communicate with K3. I have no idea why the rig would be sending a stream of
characters.

Something is sending data over that COM port.

Please make sure that the COM port you have selected in the PORTS tab is
 the
 one connected to your K3.

Try turning your K3's power off (by removing the power connector, if
necessary) and see if the data streaming stops. If it doesn't, the data
isn't coming from your K3; maybe the COM port is connected to something
else, or perhaps there's a defective cable.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Help

2008-07-05 Thread Mike N8XPQ

I have confirmed that the Com port is functioning properly as I have run the
programming software for my HT on it. I have also tried several different
computers as well as laptops. I am convinced that the problem lies in the
K3. It refuses to communicate with the PC's. It seems to be stuck in the MCU
loading state and is not accepting any commands from the K3 loader software.
The last time the rig was functional it was operating on firmware version
2.10 and I had noticed a possible problem communicating with it via the com
port. I attempted to upgrade to the latest firmware and this is now where I
am stuck. When the K3 loader starts up it displays a message stating it is
unable to communicate with K3. At times when I display the command tester
screen it will show a strange y character with 2 dots on top of it
scrolling across and filling the screen. That will stop if I disconnect the
Com cable from the back of the rig. When I re-connect it and refresh the
command tester screen it starts up again displaying the strange character. I
have taken out the K3IO board and re-seated it in the rig and the problem
persists.
ARGH

Any help or further suggestions PLEASE!:-)

Thanks in advance,

Mike N8XPQ

[Elecraft] K3 Firmware Update

2008-05-04 Thread Mike N8XPQ

The latest update is great, however I am curious as to when some of the more
basic functions such as squelch, keypad beep, and ESSB TX will be enabled. I
have also noticed that after the update, I can only listen out 4 KHz wide
versus the prior 6 KHz with the AM filter installed. Also why not allow
RX/TX passband down to 50 or so Hz? My intent is not to poke a sleeping
bear, just curious. Also has anyone heard a whisper as to the availability
of the DVR by field day?

[Elecraft] K3 1.78 Firmware Power Output

2008-03-29 Thread Mike N8XPQ

Has anyone noticed the power output with the 1.78 version does not seem to be
a punchy or responsive? It seems to be very sluggish. I have attempted all
parameter possibilities and still have had no luck. I am certain that with
the previous versions, the output was much more responsive and was not like
this. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear possible to revert back to a prior
version.

2008-03-29 Thread Mike N8XPQ

Mike . . .

You need to pay more attention to the reflector. This has been noted ad
nauseum and will be corrected in the 1.79 which is due out shortly.

WOW...I guess I have been truly told I wasn't aware there were appointed
frequency and reflector cops!! :-)

Re: [Elecraft] New Contest Transceiver

2008-03-18 Thread Mike N8XPQ

Nice looking rig,

Howeverit still only has 1 receiver. Elecraft stated they will
eventually have a pan adaptor/bandscope option for the K3. If you've read
the recent test results, the K3 meets and sometimes, beats the 7700's big
brother. And to add insult to injury, I dare venture that one could purchase
2 fully loaded K3's for the sticker shock price of the new kid on the block.

Prove me wrong

[Elecraft] K3 Direct Frequency Entry

2008-03-14 Thread Mike N8XPQ

It seems that it is not possible to enter a frequency past the second decimal
point. Ex: 7.047.50 The way it appears that when you get to the 7.047 entry
the rig will beep at you, and not allow any further or more precise
frequency entry. Am I missing an easy function or was this an oversight?

[Elecraft] K3 Squelch Function

2008-03-02 Thread Mike N8XPQ

Am I missing something? I can not seem to enable the squelch function in
the menu. The setting shows
SQ Main --. It seems that I am unable to change this feature. Has anyone
else discovered this?

Well that clears it up and makes sense too. I thought I was going crazy!

Thanks for the clarification and quick response.

Nope, you are not missing anything. The squelch feature is not
yet enabled in firmware. I do not know if it will be an all-mode
squelch, but I expect it will not be available, at all, until FM is
 enabled.
