been brought up to the latest revision.

its got the KAT2 antenna tuner, KSB2 ssb adaptor, KNB2 noise blanker,
K160RX 160 meter module, KDSP2 dsp filter module, and KSB2 firmware upgrade.
 Includes the Elecraft/Heil mic.

   Neil,

For K2 Dial Calibration issues, go to my website www.w3fpr.com and look
at the K2 Dial Calibration article there.
It should solve your problem - do the whole process including the filter
 parts.

[Elecraft] K2 Rugged?

2010-07-27 Thread Neil Shubert
Hi All,
should I be worried about taking my K2 where I would take my 857 0r 817?

I really want to but I am more protective of it, its knobs and BNC
connectors
How do they hold up to adventuring?

Re: [Elecraft] OT Carrying radios on commercial flight

2010-07-23 Thread Neil Shubert
I recently went to Florida with a whole GO kit, inside was 2 radios, 1 power
supply and 1 antenna tuner, they looked at it, asked me what it was, and
wiped it down with swabs and it was ok,
The aluminum flakes in my pocket from the machining done earlier caused more
of a problem.

Like any electronic device, you must be prepared to turn it on and
demonstrate that it works. This applies to computers, ipods, radios,
 etc.
I travel with my 2M/440 and just turn it on and pick up a local
 repeater,
bong it and get an answer. They usually say wow. I'm sure that if you
 can
turn them on and receive something it will suffice.

Hmm, you mean I have to carry another 30 pounds of batteries to power
up my K3 or other xcvr? I don't see string out a HF antenna as something
they want you to do at a security checkpoint.

This comes up all the time. I can't remember anybody who reported actually
 having
 problems flying with HF radios.

I think we need another. answer.

Hi ALL

I got my MH2 mic or the k2 and there was no resistor in the box ACK!

I know its a 5.6K Green Blue red, and its a 1/4 watt but is there a better
choice?

and should I get a gold or a silver tolerance?

Off to the telephone shack tomorrow

Don, Thank you for the help, and I did just that, tore the envelope up and
it still wasn't there. Radio is waiting, its ok, its been weeks, it will
wait 1 more day.

 Neil,

The resistance is not critical, so if you have a resistor (of any
tolerance) between 4.7k and 6.8k on hand use that.

Did you have a tan envelope on the package with the 8 jumpers for the
microphone configuration header? If so, look very carefully in that
envelope, the resistor can get twisted inside and will not fall out - tear
 the envelope open if necessary.

 Neil,

That is quite normal. The microphone jack pins are secured to the board,
but there is some play between the pins and the shell/housing of the jack.
The two standoffs are used as spacers to maintain the proper distance
between the metalwork and the front panel board - and as you indicated, to
prevent board flexing when a mic plug is removed.
You can secure the mic jack shell by removing the left side panel and
scraping some of the solder mask off the board ground plane close to the mic
jack. Then with a large tipped soldering iron, heat the mic jack shell and
the ground plane until the mic jack shell will flow solder - form a solder
bridge between the shell and the ground plane. Grounding the mic jack shell
is a good step to reducing the possibility of RF feedback, and should be
done on all K2s with the KSB2 option installed.
