[Elecraft] External sound cards
Hi all, Have purchased a new Win 7 laptop and have discovered that my much loved Tascam US-122 midi interface/external sound card will not work as it is obsolete and Tascam never produced a Win 7 driver for that model. So I am seeking a very good external USB sound card, preferably USB 3.0 and its essential that it has good EMI/RFI handling, i.e. not a cheap and cheerful type! Any recommendations??? [Elecraft] K3 Key Out Issue
Hi all, Am hoping someone can help me with a problem. I have a K3 with a KD9SV rx antenna switch and use the Key Out line to toggle this device. For some reason, the K3 will not send the key Out low in CW mode via: - external software (Logger32, N1MM) - the macro buttons - a paddle plugged in the rear port It won't send it low using any software-oriented mode, e.g. voice keyer or MMVARI either. However, it does send it low when PTT is activated, i.e. by a footswitch, and will do so when the K3 is in CW mode as well as SSB so in the meantime I can toggle the rx ant switch with the footswitch. So it seems the cabling and MOSFET controlling the Key Out lien are functioning correctly. Have just downloaded the latest firmware, the latest firmware installer and the problem persists. I have tried EEINIT prior to reloading the complete firmware, tried loading older configurations etc... My set-up is K3/KPA500/KAT500 connected via the serial cables for control and keying. I ahve tried disconnecting all external equipment save the rx ant switch and used the M1-M4 macros to generate code with VOX on and it still won't operate the Key Out line. Makes no difference if in VOX or QSK off/on or set PTT to OFF-OFF and use the paddle or M1-M4 macros. [Elecraft] CW Machine issue???
Hi, I have a strange issue with the following set-up: K3/KPA500/KT500 connected with the serial cables for control and keying. I also have a KD9SV DXpedition II rx ant switch attached directly to the K3's Key Out for switching. For some reason, when TXing CW via Logger32's CW Machine, the Key Out is not working so the rx switch isn't switching back to the TX antenna as it should. This only happens on CW using the CW Machine. Having the VOX on or off makes no difference. The CW Machine is keying correctly thru the K3/KPA500/KAT500 combo. The CW Machine settings are : PTT on selected port Share radio serial port for CW But what I notice is that the check marks beside these settings are red... and I wonder what that is indicating??? Not sure if this is a software issue or a compatibility thing. [Elecraft] KAT500 & ports
Hi all, Maybe someone with computer nous than me can answer this. Just hooked up the KAT500 and went to configure with the utility. However, the utility is only showing ports 3 and 6 as available. Port 3 is where I have the K3 plugged in and the only spare port I have, which is on the end of a 4 way USB splitter, is apparently not port 6! The USB splitter is plugged into port 4, so I removed it and plugged the KAT500 cable into port 4, expecting the latter show as the available port, but it still only gave me the options of 3 or 6. I tried another port to no avail. Have read the help file tip about the manage facility on My Computer and see that the device does attach itself to port 6... which it cannot connect to. BTW, I have no idea which is physically port 6... [Elecraft] SPKR+PH fault
Hi all, Further to the earlier issue... i.e. my K3 is in "SPKR+PH - On" mode even though the rig says it is off. This only occurs thru the front speaker port. When I plugged the phones into the rear socket, the internal speaker cut out and I have the usual sound from the rig... I would still like to fix the front phone socket issue as it is much more convenient for me to revert to Speaker from that position. This curious behaviour occurred overnight... it was fine when switched off yesterday and appeared at switch-on today.. I did not access the menus for any reason. I wonder if a firmware re-install may correct it??? [Elecraft] Speaker staying on
Hi all, The K3 has developed a curious fault since switching off yesterday, i.e the speaker stays on even with phones plugged into the front socket. Has not done this before and was working normally when it was switched off last evening. I simply turned it on this morning and encountered this unexpected result. Unplugging and plugging in the phones and re-booting the power made no difference. Any ideas? [Elecraft] KPA500 fusing and cable-colouring
Hi all, Started assembling the KPA500 last night and noticed the use of fuses for the AC supply. Unlike other parts of the world, we don't have individually fused socket outlets or plugs so I'll incorporate a small enclosure with flush fuse holders. Now, do I need to fuse both phase and neutral, and what are the correct colours? In New Zealand and Australia (and most of the Commonwealth) we use red for phase and black for neutral. Hi all, I was less flustered today and did some more checking... Discovered the main fuse in the negative supply line from the PSU had blown. [Elecraft] K3 losing RF power
Hi all, More info... Was unaware of the power recommendations on 50MHz... I was running 100W calling CQ on 50MHz when the problem suddenly arose. Maybe running 100W on 6M has been the cause? If I dial up 100W on any band, RF power as indicated on the K3 display is 70W. I am unable to get more than 70W on any band... And running very latest software 4.22. [Elecraft] K3 losing RF
Hi all, My K3 has developed a problem... Power output is down to 70W and the LCD back-light flickers on tx. The "Low Voltage" message flicked up briefly once. I suspect a DC power problem but so saying, the voltage at the rig is 13.9V on transmit at 70W and the rig is drawing 13A. The problem seems worse on the 6mb. If I reduce the output RF control to around 60W, there is no perceptible LCD flickering. I will obtain another 20A power supply tomorrow and see if the problem persists. In the mean time, (apart from running low power), can anyone suggest what I should start looking for internally? [Elecraft] Err 12V
Hi all, Yesterday, the K3 threw up the "Err 12V" error and bypassed the KPA3 module. The circuit breaker didn't pop and I was able to power off and increase the power back up. This was happening on PSK with 50W and RTTY with 100W. I have yet to try digi modes in anger again today without first getting some feedback. I had close to zero AGC/compression when this occurred. [Elecraft] K3 and the IC-2KL/AT-500
Hi all, Hopefully, I will soon purchase an IC-2KL/AT-500 combo for use with the K3. I understand that to automatically band-switch I need an interface that emulates the CI-V. It would appear that most modern band-decoders don't provide the analogue voltages required and there is W9XT's "BCD-10" but it requires a parallel port to drive it... I use a laptop so that is an issue! If anyone is aware of an interface device (apparently someone has homebrewed one) I would appreciate knowing the details. Maybe the Elecraft KRC2 is the answer??? I ma not that concerned about the negative ALC mod at this stage.
