Re: [Elecraft] WSJTX ON A MAC

2023-07-27 Thread Richard Gilley
Thank you all for the quick reply and suggestions. Good work as all is well.

The CONFIG.PTT was set to other than OFF-OFF, made the change in settings
ERR-PTT no longer an issue.

Following up on the Notes Guide and will make those changed also as I was
getting the “Unable to creat shared memories ….” On a MAC M1.

Again thank you all for your kind replies.

[Elecraft] WSJTX ON A MAC

2023-07-26 Thread Richard Gilley
Hi all,

I loaded WSJTX on a IMAC and ran into this issue on my K3: I have receive and
Tx ok but I also have ERR PTT displayed. Pressing any key does not clear this
error and I have no access to power adjust as an example. CAT does go green
but still the error.
I have gone over my WSJTX settings and settings on the K3 as listed in the
manual, and I think I have the audio set correctly in the MAC.

I can run WSJTX on a PC with the K3 without any issue.

I have a feeling that not many folks use Mac but it is what I would prefer to
use.

Thank you all for reading about my problem and that there is solution.

Best regards
R Gilley

Thank you for your response.

Looks like I can down load 1.21.10.9, after download and Extraction I have the

I do have access to the KAT, so will leave it at that for now, too much time

[Elecraft] Kat500 Firmware

2021-12-20 Thread Richard Gilley
Hi,
Having difficulty loading latest version of the Kat500 utility. The
version I have is 01.75, the utility indicates that 2.05 is available. However
the new version does not load but the message “ Input hex file is corrupt,
check sum is not zero”

I have the same issue attempting to load a Mac and Linux.

Perhaps 2.05 is not available? Or is there a fix I am not aware of, or perhaps
it is not necessary to upgrade?

Thank you for your interest. Help would be appreciated.

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 Locked on Ant 1

2021-04-30 Thread richard gilley
Hi,
Thank you Dick K6KR, and Skip NC90 for your help. I ended up doing a
factory default, enabled the ant per band and all is well.
One question: After setting the configuration, saving, shutting down, and
powering up I found in checking "edit configuration" ant 1 and 3 were no
longer enabled. However, all worked as expected. Should the latest
configuration show the antennas enabled? Perhaps not?

Thank you again, saving me a ship to CA.

Very Best regards

When my Concept 2 rower was dropped off damaged; I was told by UPS that if a

My vote must goes to Don Wilhelm. He has a wealth of knowledge and

Even though I have not experienced many issues with Elecraft hardware I did

I have had a bit of experience at customer technical field support and I sense

[Elecraft] KX3 not switching ant when changing bands

2018-11-27 Thread richard gilley
Hi,
Following F. Cady advice on grounding the station equipment to a common
bus, I did so. My set up includes a KXPA100 with the ATU, the KX3 and PX3. Now
I noticed that the KX3 does not always indicate the same antenna as the KXPA100
when I switch bands. Sometime it does and then does not, or will change after
5 to 10 seconds. I have a Vertical for 30 meters, and a Dipole for 40 and 20
meters, the KXPA100 switches immediately.

I have powered down all the equipment, restarted and sometime this does the
trick and all is well. But sometime it does not. If I remove the ground from
the KX3 and the PX3 the issue goes away.
The equipment ground is #18 stranded, < 10” to the bus, the bus has a copper
braid to the KXPA100, the antenna grounds and on to the station ground rod 8’
feet outside the shack.

At the moment all is OK. I just do not know the root cause. Any ideas or
thoughts.

[Elecraft] K2 noise

2010-02-03 Thread richard gilley
With so much talk on the K3 noise, AGC etc I thought I would ask if
the following is normal on a K2. Or do I have an issue with my build
6732.
This K2 has the KSUB SSB and KPA100 additions.
With only battery power and ear phone connected; AGC off: AF fully
clockwise; RF gain fully ccw; cw mode; fltr settings 200,400, or 700.
any band, I hear a definite constant, fairly low level, hash.

With RF gail fully clockwise and AF gain fully ccw, no hash is heard
until AF gain is advanced from 7 o'clock to about 8 o'clock.

Would this be considered normal or do I have another issue to look into?

 Hi Mike,

I got my KAF2 in the second hand market at a much lower price. Of
course, KAF2 is even more primitive but it is real cheap. You just
pay the price for an internal clock but with additional filter

I played around the KDSP2 with different settings (including the

now happy with my KAF2 (just a fraction of the price of KDSP2 in

 Hi Dick,

The KAF2 removes a lot of hf hash from the audio and makes listening
to SSB much nicer. An essential module I would say and many prefer
it over the more fancy and expensive KDSP2.

[Elecraft] K2 trouble on the tracks

2009-11-05 Thread richard gilley
My K2 was operating fine, has the SSB module the latest addition, and
The KTA100 addition. Has been working fine for a week since the SSB
addition. Was on 80 meters tuning up on low power, 3 watts, and the
lights went out.
Removed the KTA100 and SSB board on QRP with power to min, press
start: lights for 2 to 3 sec and quits.

Where is the best place to start?

Appreciate your help.

[Elecraft] K2 KSB2 mic selesction

2009-10-24 Thread richard gilley
Planning on adding SSB to my K2. I have a Yeasu MH31 dynamic mic,
and an Icom HM 36 Electret condenser mic which are listed in the
manual. Any thoughts at which would perform the best? But I also
have a Icom IC SM5 Electret condenser with a built in amp., which I
would prefer to use but it is not listed.
Your thoughts will be appreciated.

[Elecraft] Fwd: pulsing hash

2009-09-24 Thread richard gilley
Thank you all for your response. The hash is no longer heard. As
PA3A suggested, moving the inter connect ribbon cable up and away
from the main K2 RF board solved the problem.
Appreciate your consideration.

When running KComm, on the K2 as a logging program, I hear a pulsing
hash, a varying amplitude hash with a peak rate of a few seconds.
More prevalent on 40 meters, reducing a bit on 20 meters.
When I disconnect all is OK. The hash is not that disturbing but if
you tend to pay attention it could be bothersome. Any ideas?
 Thank you for your attention.

[Elecraft] Hi current

2009-09-06 Thread richard gilley
Question:

I am finding the following on my QRP K2 with KAT2, cal current set 3.7:
20 meters power setting 14.6, current displayed 2.84, CW
30 meters power setting 14.6, HI current displayed at CW TX, SWR
1.2:1, current 3.74
40 meters power setting 14.6, Hi current displayed at CW TX, SWR
1.2:1, current 3.72

Should I consider this as OK?
Or do I have an alignment issue on 30 and 40 meters or some other
issue I should look into?
The ant. on 30 is a vert, on 40 and 20 a dipole cut for 40 and 20.

I am in the process adding the upgrade to K2/100 and do not want to
create smoke.

Thank you for your consideration.

 Your opinion is valued.
I recently completed my K2. And was thinking of adding DSP.
As a CW op only, would the KDSP2 be a good addition?

I just wanted to say that the K2 is wonderful as a kit and as a
radio. I want to thank you all, Don Scott and Gary for your support,
Richard in Parts and the rest of the team..

You all made it fun, challenging and a learning experience.

What else have you got??

Just kidding

[Elecraft] Hi Current K2

2009-06-19 Thread richard gilley

I am embarrassed to say but I have a high current indication on
nearly all bands during Tx. (new build and I thought I was being so
 so careful).

The Rec. draws 240 ma. at 12.4 volts. Does change slightly with
 option changes.

Attempted transmitter Tune up Test Part Three page 77 has the
 following results:

4.045 Mhz - Hi Cur LCD to P19
7.099 Mhz - Hi Cur LCD to P19
10.00 Mhz - Hi Cur LCD to P18
14.060 Mhz Hi Cur LCD to P16
18.090 Mhz NO Hi Cur LCD to P.3
21.054 MHZ No Hi Cur LCD to P.8
25.012 MhzNO Hi Cur LCD to P.1

Power set to 2W and 1 W with same indication.

 Current limit set to 2.5A.
Voltage on C of Q8 and Q7 at 12.4 Vdc.
Res, measurements page 74 all within limits.

Changed power supply, when I noticed voltage drop and high current
reading of 5 A. No change with known good supply.

Hints requested before I tear something.

 Best regards
 Dick AD1G

[Elecraft] K2 new build page 68 installation C22

2009-06-06 Thread richard gilley
Help anyone,

Page 68 RF board installation, C22 list a 3.3 pF cap. I have two 2.7
pF caps on hand and no 3 pF. The inventory of parts does not list a
2.7 pF.
Is this a substitution?

Thank you

[Elecraft] Fwd: K2 new build page 68 installation C22

2009-06-06 Thread richard gilley
Thank you Philip, Don and jim. The manual is revision G. I did not
see a note in the Errata. The parts list did mention a 2R7 so I
would guess that must mean 2.7.
I appreciate you help.
