Re: [Elecraft] AGC Setting for PSK-31
- Original Message - From: Lyle Johnson k...@wavecable.com I find the built-in soundcard function on my various computers to be perfectly adequate for soundcard-based digital modes with my K3 and other radios. A *very* good reason for using a second soundcard is that Windows will not use it for send the clicks, clacks and beeps you hear while playing with your PC. On SSTV it's easy to see when someone is using the internal soundcard instead of second card. A good soundcard will not suffer from intermod - just like a good radio. Aside from having a dedicated sound card...is there a Rx or Tx advantage to using an interface like Rigblaster. Thanks again for all the help you have provided! The K3 is an excellent receiver so don't cripple the receive chain with a poor soundcard - get a quality soundcard such as the Rigblaster and you'll know there's nothing better you can do. The K3's dynamic range is so good that using your 66' dipole you'll probably never suffer from strong signal overload, especially if you're able to switch in a narrow filter if the going gets tough, for example in an RTTY contest when 1KW seems to be the minimum power level allowed :-) Simon Brown, HB9DRV www.ham-radio-deluxe.com ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi Larry, That's it - the only commands not used in Polling are those used when you press the Menu button to get at all that Config stuff. Are you on the K3 Software list? If so we can co-ordinate this kind of thing there, I don't expect any major updates like build 1988 / 1989 until Wayne gets the channel support working. Simon Brown, HB9DRV www.ham-radio-deluxe.com - Original Message - From: Larry Phipps [EMAIL PROTECTED] OK Simon. I added support for AG$, IS, MD$, OM, RG$, RVA, RVF and RVR to LP-Bridge. That seems to allow HRD to work properly, at least for the commands that you appear to have added to the main polling routine. I will look through the dev reflector for further new commands that need to be added. I pass all your new SET commands through, so I only need to be concerned about new GET commands at the moment. I can add this as an option for one main program, but that could cause problems with other programs. I could also add a slew of commands to fill in the virtual K3 that I create so that it can answer either K30 or K31 commands, but that's a lot of work that will have to wait. I have about 45 GET commands implemented, but I think there have been at least a dozen added in the last few weeks by Wayne. Most SET commands are passed on, except for some of the dev commands and meta commands. In the meantime, I will download and test your latest beta to see what's going on. Until the 2.46 beta becomes an official Elecraft release then you'll have to use a prior release of HRD. Given that this is 'in my spare time' programming I honestly can't support multiple K3 firmwares in the one executable. I'm already supporting 70 different radios and six different manufacturers, all for free! FWIW the CAT side seems OK with 2.46 but as for whether the radio works with 2.46 - I don't know as I am mainly using SSTV which requires little user intervention other than watching the picture (often Scandinavian) as it is decoded :-) I plan to track the Elecraft developer beta changes - we have our own mailing list for this. There is no reason why a highly accurate background thread cannot be implemented in a Windows NT-based system for sending CW where the solution does not use all CPU or affect other programs which are running, it's up to the programmer to code properly. WinKey is the only transceiver independent way to get that timing outside of Windows where it is not effected by the vagaries of Windows (or any other operating system). WinKey is the very best option IMO. The development teams of BOTH major US based Windows contesting programs and several other major integrated packages have stated that the lack of editing, the transceiver specific nature of the KY command, and the differences between the Elecraft and Kenwood implementations make KY an absolute non-starter. We will be able to power up / down all components remotely, can hear own signals about 12dB above the noise on 23cms using EME and that's when we don't even shout! 41dB gain on 23 cms, 30dB (I think) on 70 cms. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - first impressions
Watching a band such as 6m for Sporadic-E activity. Simon Brown, HB9DRV www.ham-radio-deluxe.com - Original Message - From: jmalloy [EMAIL PROTECTED] I agree with the OP as far as the K3 goes and have no experience of the Icom 7800, but I have yet to get a concrete example of the things a spectrum scope can do. Does anyone know what is it about it that you *can't* do with the K3 as presently outfitted? ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - first impressions
SSB portion is at least 200 kHz wide - the band is closed - then it's open. With a bandscope you see the whole band, beacons - everything. Simon Brown, HB9DRV www.ham-radio-deluxe.com - Original Message - From: jmalloy [EMAIL PROTECTED] That seems reasonable, Simon, but if you're already *on* 6, can't you just tell by the sounds? I don't mean to be difficult, I really am curious! ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. The jungle drums say it's a brand new radio, nothing from previous radios (except IC-7800 / IC-7700) being used. Looking at the back of the IC-7600 I see that the standard CI-V connector is still in place. Simon Brown, HB9DRV www.ham-radio-deluxe.com - Original Message - From: Julian, G4ILO [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have grown resigned to the idea of throwing away perfectly serviceable computer peripherals only a few years old because drivers are no longer available but that is not something I want to do with a $4000 radio. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] Which sideband on data mode?
In Europe at least I only see USB for RTTY - but don't watch too much RTTY anyway. Simon Brown, HB9DRV www.ham-radio-deluxe.com - Original Message - From: R. Kevin Stover [EMAIL PROTECTED] The standard is USB for digi modes like PSK, MFSK, all the others except RTTY. The convention for RTTY is LSB The K2 will do either USB or LSB. Technically it doesn't really matter. A PSK signal sent with USB can be decoded with LSB and visa versa. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. I think I'm right in saying that Dave AA6YQ has the code for MMTTY and he's been tinkering with the innards. Simon Brown, HB9DRV www.ham-radio-deluxe.com - Original Message - From: Brian Alsop [EMAIL PROTECTED] Years ago, MMTTY for FSK assumed USB reception for polarity. If guys were trying to receive your FSK signal on LSB, it was inverted. There was no software switch to invert the polarity either. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr.
