Actually, the 9834 is now spec'ed to 75MHz. Problem is
finding oscillators.

It happens to be the very same DDS in the KD1JV ATS
radios and a few folks have already swapped DDS chips,
changed the oscillator, modified the DDS filter,
changed the firmware and put their rigs on higher
bands--12M being the highest due to Nyquist
considerations. 

So yes it could be done, but you would have to write
new firmware for the KX1 and somehow grow some more
space for the extra filters and relays that are gonna
be neccessary. I don't see it as being practical.

[Elecraft] FS: unbuilt KIO2

Doing some closet cleaning and found a KIO2 that I got
when I bought a used K2. It is unbuilt and still in
the plastic bag. Don't think I will ever connect my K2
to a computer so off to a new home it shall go.

Yep, they are amazing. Last week I was trying to work
one of the 80M foxes on Tuesday night with my K2.
First clue something was wrong was that the swr into
my antenna was abnormally high. Nevermind, I could
hear the Fox just fine so I try to work him. Normally
I would work this particular Fox very easily and for
15 minutes I could hear him but he never responded to
me. Light bulb goes on and I look at the panel. Sure
enough I am trying to work him with ANT2 and I have my
antenna hooked up to ANT1. Switch to ANT1 and work him
promptly. Swr was better on ANT 1 too. :)

Fine rigs these Elecraft's are.

Great ideas. Here is another. Go down to Walmart and
get some Silencio ear plugs from the sporting goods
section. Cut them appropriately and put them on
instead of the foam. Much more comfortable for me and
a better seal.

[Elecraft] KX1 dds calibration ?

When I calibrate my kx1 I get different values for the
dds cal depending on the band:

40m -28
30m -23
20m -17

BFO cal is fine at -.10  I used USB and a spectro type
program to cal on the 1000hz top of the minute tone
from wwv (5.0 and 10.0 15.0) also checked against CHU
and it is similiar.

Questions: Are these results normal? Is it not enough
to worry about? Which one would you just set it to,
and leave it?

Since the 30m board will be sandwiched between the
main board and the top cover do it next. I just
finished one myself. Great little rig. Also you might
want to take the little blue caps off when you solder
the the 30m board on, just so you don't touch one with
the iron :)
