[Elecraft] KX2 output power drop
Hi folks .. A question about the KX2: I saw this on other posts, and also experienced it in portable operations: ''The KX2 was able to pump out a full 10 watts of power for a little over one hour, then as the voltage dropped, it reduced output to 5 watts.''. So it seems to be normal, but is it documented somewhere in the KX2 specs? [Elecraft] AX1 (and AXE1) Report
Hi folks ... Today I made my 100th QSO using the AXE1. So far (40 and 20 meters combined) and with 5 or 10 Watts (KX2-KX3-AXE1-AX1), the average distance of contacts is 1581 km with a maximum of 5635 km. [Elecraft] AX1 assembly problem
Hi Mike There is a small metal cylinder coming with the AXE1. The AXE1 fits into it through a hole. At the other end, the AX1 fits into that cylinder. No problem here. Obtained by NEC simulation for the AX1 installed at 4 feet above average ground: If you place yourself in front of the antenna and in the direction of the 13' horizontal counterpoise, the signal received will only be vertically polarized for all takeoff angles. But if you test it in a different direction, the polarization becomes oblique. At 90 degrees from the direction of the counterpoise, the components of the signal received will be mostly horizontally polarized for a takeoff angle of 32 degrees or more and at lower angles, the vertical component is higher. ... I used the AX1 as a test in WPX CW last weekend for only an hour on a picnic table. No problem ...in that time I got 13 QSOs from FN45 including FL. (10 Watts KX2, 13' counterpoise). -- After NEC simulations (0.005, 13 average ground) , we find how the gain is maximized in the direction of the counterpoise. On 20 meters, if the wire is horizontal at 4 feet height, the take-off angle is about 56 degrees. Not a record, but today I made my first DX/EU using the AX1. My setup was a KX2, CW, 10W and the 13' counterpoise. SM3GSK at 5630 km returned me a 559. BTW ...As an alternative to a tripod, I fixed the antenna support to a picnic table using 2 common tablecloth clamps. [Elecraft] KXAT2 ATU MD Menu
Hi ... In the KXAT2 menu, there is an option to check relays: In ATU MD Modes L1-L7, C1-C7 and Ct are used to test the KXAT2's relays and L-network. However, I dont see any detailed infos of how to use it and what results should be expected ?? Any information would be welcome. ... I forgot to say that I can transmit and make QSOs with the rig even with these high SWR so the power is getting to the antenna. [Elecraft] KXAT2 problem
Hi to all .. I have a problem with my KX2 which appeared today. When I press ATU to start a tuning sequence, I hear the familiar relays noise of the KXAT2. the 3 W power level is indicated, but it seems that no power is getting out to the antenna or dummy load. After 2 or 3 seconds, the sequence stops and a 25:1 SWR is indicated ... ... Any suggestion? [Elecraft] KXBC3 clock drift
Looking at the schematic of the KXBC3, the real time clock seems to be a part of chip PIC24F16KA10. And a reference to that chip says this: 29.3.9 Calibration The real-time crystal input can be calibrated using the periodic auto-adjust feature. When properly calibrated, the RTCC can provide an error of less than 3 seconds per month. This is accomplished by finding the number of error clock pulses and storing the value into the lower half of the RCFGCAL register. The 8-bit signed value loaded into the lower half of RCFGCAL is multiplied by four and will be either added or subtracted from the RTCC timer, once every minute. Refer to the steps below for RTCC calibration (Reference: http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/39696b.pdf ) So I wonder if some calibration could be done via a software mod.
