More than you ever wanted to know about the convention of giving "W" callsigns to
broadcast stations east of the Mississippi and "K" callsigns to the west:

She is correct on luncheon meats.

Big Mac, Any Egg and Meat sandwich and most prepared foods have about 900mg
of Sodium and I bet your dailing limit is about 1500mg (for Canadians, that
means all Tim's breakfast sandwiches). Don't forget hotdogs and sausages
are off the list too. They use a lot of Brine. As my wife and I did the
Sodium research the Big Mac was about the 'best' of the worst. No more
pizza or just about any Mall food.

Eggs are great!

Your own safe way out is to prepare your own with plain meets like Turkey,
etc. Welcome to getting old-er. :)

Re: [Elecraft] FW: [Elecraft-K3] K3S Comparison table finalized (linkattached)

2019-01-28 Thread Jamie WW3S
and that was my real life experience in last weekends 160 contestI felt
the 7610 could hear just a bit better than the K3, especially those ESP
signals right at the noise.I worked several DX I wouldn’t have with the
K3.BUT...in crowded condx, the 7610 thumped and pumped when someone
was close to my passband, even with a 200 hz filter enabled. I didn’t get
any of that with the K3, its front end is like a brick wall..to be fair,
I had the noise blanker enabled on the 7610, which some comments post
contest said that could be some of the thumping I experienced.

I'd be interested in seeing a similar comparison of the K3S to the
FlexRadio.

My two cents:

Rob wrote:

I would count the order differently if numbering is of interest. The

radio at #1 cannot be reproduced with current software.

Clarified recently in footnote "y" of the RX performance table.

That makes the K3S #1 and the 7610 #9 if you want to count for some

reason. The difference in 2 kHz dynamic range is 106 dB compared to 98 dB.

The table is sorted on 2 kHz IMDDR3. However, the table also shows dramatic
differences in blocking dynamic range. For example, the K3S is 20 to 30 dB
stronger in this regard than all of the direct-sampling radios in the table.
This is due to the K3S having narrow-band filtering (crystal filters) ahead
of the ADC. This can greatly reduce desense and other artifacts in any
high-signal situation (Field Day, KW neighbor, multi-TX station, etc.).

[Elecraft] IQ balance Win4K3 panadapter

2017-11-28 Thread Jamie WW3S
Is there anyone available for a phone call to ehlp me adjust this to get rid of
the image..I’ve followed the instructions as best I could, every time I do
it, I’m getting rid of the signal, instead of the image..

I have a signal generator on 14.075
I see the signal on 14.075 and the image around 14.091
I tune the radio to 14.085, so the true signal is to the left of center, and
the image to the right
when I try adjusting gain or phase, the only signal I can “adjust” is the main
signal..

I think part of the problem is the peaks are so small, its hard to
detect..really getting frustrated.

Re: [Elecraft] CW Contest and Elecraft K3 Decoder

2017-11-28 Thread ww3s
If you make more than a few contacts, please send your log in, it helps in the

Sent from my Windows tablet

From: Dauer, Edward

Same here. I am an avid contester; but since the one time I did a clean sweep
in the SS a lifetime ago, I haven’t sent in a single log to a contest sponsor.
For me, the competition is me – can I do a one weekend WAS, or closer to a
clean sweep than I did last year? (Did that a couple of times, but not
lately.) Can I do a one weekend DXCC? (never did, but I might someday.) Can I
make my station, and my antenna farm (in truth, more like a window planter than
a farm) more effective and easier to operate this year than last? Can I get my
code proficiency up to the point that I can QSO faster than I can type? (Yup,
done that.) Can I integrate new equipment and gadgets just to see if they
help? Can I get Nebraska on ten meter CW which I have been chasing
unsuccessfully for a 5BWAS for almost ten years? (If I had ever done that I
wouldn’t have mentioned it.)

Using a decoder would be contrary to what I am trying to do. Likewise, relying
on spotting, working lists, renting other peoples’ stations, running full
illegal power, etc.

I don’t mean to disparage what anyone else does. I mean only to say that
contesting can be great fun despite what others are doing for their fun.

With one exception. I would like to personally pour a beer on the head of
operators (many of them DX) who program their memory keyers to send just their
call at utterly incomprehensible speeds although every other part of the
exchange is at 30 – 35 or so. I waste a lot of time just trying to figure out
who and what they are; and never has one responded well to a polite request to
QRS.

I view contests as "an easy way to work DX" for me. I'm on a city lot
that's getting noisier and noisier and CQWW is a good time to find a lot
of DX stations all on the air and willing to make a contact with this
guy with 100W into a vertical.

Not that I got on this year for either contest. :)

I've enjoyed the reflector approach. The forum would allow for more
classification and potentially easier searching, but I believe we'll
lose responsiveness and "that something" that I sense here on the reflector.

Jamie: I've been asked to explain a "why": Install the lastest K3 Utility
because I updated the Help Text that describes the recovery procedure. In
an earlier e-mail you mentioned a checkbox for copy new files from Elecraft,
and that's been removed in recent K3 Utility versions (there's a button
instead). That made me think you're using an older K3 Utility version, and
the help text I'm describing may not be in that earlier K3 Utility version.

I would assume that the SPE amps all integrate with the K3 in a similar
fashion. When I used the SPE 2K in CQWW CW it was like having a 1.5K

I think that the ship has sailed with respect to Elecraft bringing a legal
limit SS amp to market.

There are a growing number of lightweight legal limit amps already on the
market. The FlexRadio Power Genius looks especially promising:

http://www.flexradio.com/amateur-products/powergenius-xl/

It only weighs 33 pounds. I saw it in operation at the Orlando HamCation
and it looked very impressive operating all weekend into a dummy load at a
conservative 1.5 kw output.

SPE also just announced a 1.5 kw amp..something I'm surprised they did given
that they already have a 1 kw, 1.3 kw, and a 2kw amp on the market. I know
of several people that have the 1 kw amp and use it with their K3 radios and
they love them. I've used the big SPE amp in CQWW CW and it worked
flawlessly all weekend without a hiccup.

Re: [Elecraft] Confused about K3 to K3S Migration service

2017-02-04 Thread Jamie WW3S
I'm puzzled also I think you get both radios back, and if you want to
upgrade the older K3 (like to the new synthesizer board) if you buy the
board, they'll install it for the 199.99 flat fee.but I admit, it is
confusing

Subject: [Elecraft] Confused about K3 to K3S Migration service

I've read the Elecraft offer in the recent newsletter. Here is my
understanding of the migration service, which may be completely wrong:

I purchase a new K3S and pay $200.00 to have Elecraft install options
from my old K3 in the K3S, and I get back a new K3S (containing options
taken from my K3) plus my old K3 stripped of the options. Is that
right, or do I receive only one radio back called a K3S? Where is the
cost saving or advantage in choosing this service?

Chuck Guenther NI0C

[Elecraft] ALC on line in?

2017-01-22 Thread Jamie WW3S
Is it possible to display ALC while using the line in jack on the rear panel?
Trying WSJT-X , DATA-A mode, and while I have power out, no ALC is displayed,
and I’m concerned about overdriving.

[Elecraft] connector pin changes on final amp?

2016-07-30 Thread Jamie WW3S
Around what serial number did the change from the nickel type pins to the gold
plated one? I’ve heard there was a problem running RTTY on the earlier models
with overheating causing trouble with the connectors.

[Elecraft] monitoring your own transmitted RTTY text

2016-07-18 Thread Jamie WW3S
Trying to help a RTTY newbie setup his Microkeyer II to his K3, we had
everything working in NAQP except whatever he sent was not visible in the digi
window of MM+. We noticed it scrolled by in the microkeyer window, but a
nusiance to try to keep your eyes on the screen and the keyer..I noticed a
post about the recent K3 firmware, but Ed doesn’t have that installed in his
K3.is there a setting or something we missed? With my microkeyer, I didn’t
have to do anything, what I sent was automagically captured in the digi
window.
