Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500 F/W 2.09 Beta released. Also new KPA1500 Utility.
Eric, Thank you for the update. I did find that I needed to reduce transceiver output from where I had it set ~26 W to 21 W to keep within legal output. Other wise no issues. I do use BYP for tuner as I have a remote tuner. 72 & 73, Bill K9YEQ FT'er for K2, KX1, KX3, KXPA100, KAT500, W2, etc. -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net On Behalf Of Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft Sent: Friday, March 1, 2019 2:28 PM To: Elecraft Reflector Reflector Subject: [Elecraft] KPA1500 F/W 2.09 Beta released. Also new KPA1500 Utility. KPA1500 F/W 2.09 Beta has been released to the elecraft website. It can be downloaded from the support f/w- s/w page in the K-Line\KPA1500 section. F/W 2.09 provides a significant improvement in ATU tuning results. It also an improves the communication of current radio frequency between the K3/K3S and the 1500 via the AUX cable. For those of you upgrading from 2.0, see the full release note list on the Support Firmware and Software page link below. Both of these issues were highlighted in the recent "KPA-1500 tuner question" thread on the Elecraft email list. Our thanks to Scott-K9MA, Walt-WA1KKM, our regular KPA1500 Field Testers and others who have helped us quickly address these issues. We also have a new KPA1500 Utility (Windows Version 1.19.2.21) on the same KPA1500 page. Mac and Linux versions will appear soon. This utility version has several improvements and also fixes a bug where the erase ATU memories Utility button did not always perform the erase. RE: [Elecraft] Swing Arm Magnifiers -OT
I also did Lasik, and at my age, I went to the drug store and tested the "reading" glasses that worked best and I found the 2.0 - 2.5 do the job for soldering. I am selling off some used tuners to make room for the T1! Or, perhaps its time to sell serial #35 and build the next unit, just to build again. I use clip on magnifying lenses that clip to my reading glasses. For most a lot of the building activity I can look "under" the magnifying lenses to see through the reading glasses. When I need the magnification it's right there. No problems reading the numbers on those tiny glass diodes. RE: [Elecraft] k2 control board r18, r19
I too built my K-2 and all accessories with the RS soldering iron. However, after reading all the interesting stuff on this reflector, including the Hakko desoldering iron, I finally bought a soldering station from Hakko and I can testify that soldering life will never be the same. Incredible difference to have a professional level iron in one's hand. Now it is time to build again and I look forward to using it. Bill K9YEQ ... Confession: I've built everything I've ever built, including a K1, two KX1s, two Rock-Mites, an ATS-3 and various test equipment, and now part of my K2...with the same Radio Shack 30W pencil. I do, however, swap out the tip once in a while! For solder, I use the RS 2% silver-bearing, thin solder...because it's so nice and shiny! Using desoldering braid, also from RS, has never been a problem. Placing the braid flat on a filled, plated through-hole, I hold the iron vertically and stick the tip into the spot where the hole is, under the braid, and I watch for the flow of solder into the braid. The result is a slick, clean hole. Never a problem. [WRJ] ... ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. RE: [Elecraft] on the topic of autotuners
I own several tuners to operate other equipment, which I must sadly admit I own, and Elecraft tuners outperform, IMHO, all of them! Bill WR Johnson 920-421-1172 -Original Message- Three reasons: 1. (obvious) the integrated, automatic pre-setting-per-antenna-per-VFO function, and the (also obvious) dual antenna jack feature ... just way too useful to not have. 2. (not so obvious) the LDG and most other relay-type autotuners stop diddling the Ls and Cs when the indicated VSWR ratio gets to a place where they decide it's OK. The Elecraft tuning algorithm is recursive, "passing" the implicit null(s) and finding the "real" one. Once you have this feature, you won't go back. 3. (also not obvious) the Elecraft autotuners do a better job matching the odd, and often abruptly high impedances of field antennas, than the LDG or the SGC ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Ron, I totally agree! "...One last point I'll make -- understanding that it is controversial. A lot of people say the Spectrogram puts the filters "right on". I've done it many times and I will agree that it's close, but Spectrogram has never been "right on" in my estimation. It's close enough that most people don't need to do any more, but I've always found it possible to improve the quality by monitoring my signal and making the final adjustments, just as the KSB2 manual advises.. Low and High on SSB is also in the perception of the listener. If you think they are on a specific freq. and tune using that then you may be off. I listen to nets where the net control can be off 50-70 Hz and I tune accordingly.
