[Elecraft] 270 foot (ish) Doublet K3 ATU
Hello, Does anyone use a 270 foot doublet with the K3 ATU? Is there a combination of feeder type/length and Balun type coax length that tunes OK on 160-10? I am currently thinking a 1:1 balun and 33 foot of 300 ohm feeder. Obviously the coax length should be short but too short may cause rfi probs, but then I only run 100W. Re: [Elecraft] Rising current on Tx (K3)
Hi Thanks for all the suggestions. I cannot re-create the effect on any other band but 10M. I have checked the PSU and its voltage O/P is stable @13.8V ish, (read on the K3) Although I shall stick some ferrites on the leads and keep my fingers crossed, (I am some way from my antenna) I suspect a failing component under stress, hopefully coax or balun and not a PA component.. Time will tell, thanks for your advice. 73 Iain G4SGX --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Re: [Elecraft] Rising current on Tx (K3)
Hello, For the sake of future searchers etc, this problem was solved by winding the 12V PSU lead through a toroid or two, as per one of the suggestions from the list. I was surprised as I am well away form my antenna. (Windom) It seems a few people had this issue on 10M TX and I know remember I may have had it mobile once or twice. All makes perfect sense now! 73 Iain G4SGX --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Re: [Elecraft] Rising current on Tx (K3)
Apologies if this is covered before. I've just noticed some new behaviour on my K3. While on 10 RTTY chasing DX, I noticed the current indication on the PSU rising during a long TX. I switched to the current meter on the K3. At the start is was about 15Amps (100W RTTY TX) but soon rose. On a 20 second TX it rose to about 26 Amps (!) and the Hi Curr error message came up on screen. The rig USED to be OK for extended periods of RTTY. I have not tried on any other bands. Can anyone explain this behaviour? Iain G4SGX --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! [Elecraft] K3 Speaker buzz - But which external speaker ?
Hello, Well after 18 months the buzzing of the K3 internal speaker has reached annoying proportions. For a while it faded after switching on for 10 mins but now its a constant resonance at 580 Hz. Great for CW! (not) Because of the above I am sure its because the coil has shifted in the speaker slightly rather than any sympathetic resonances from the case. I'm not complaining, I understand if I contacted Elecraft I am likely to get a replacement speaker sent out, (Its a well documented 'extra feature') but really haven't got round to it, nor am i likely too, well down the list of priorities! Will probably order it along with a set of CW filters when I need them. I'm REALLY after recommendations for an external shack speaker, or is any good HiFi speaker good enough? I would assume some RF shielding and good high end sensitivity was more of an issue. Yours. Iain G4SGX. [Elecraft] QSK clicking on Tx...
Apologies if this has been covered before. I have looked but found no definitive answer. This morning, after getting up early to catch the greyline for HK0NA on 80M, (which was successful, 80M CW 40M SSB bagged with my 100W and bit of wire.) I noticed a clicking from the rear left (I think) of my K3 whenever I TX'd. QSK semi instead of fully reduced it and it was not evident on on Test mode. I am assuming this is connected with the PIN diodes. It was only evident on 80M. SWR was 1:1 I removed all leads suspecting RFI but no change. The clicking gradually reduced over time... wierd I did not notice this 2 weeks ago when I last used 80M CW. Any suggestions ? I only ask because I leave for Bhutan in 4 days and I'm taking it with me for a few days operating and hope its not a pre-courser of something horrible. Re: [Elecraft] QSK clicking on Tx...
Nope, just my inverted L. I did originally think I might be in the middle of a large RF field as my router started disconnecting again. (It does this occasionally depending on how wet the ground is I think.. Has been fine for ages), but discounted this as the noise isn't a constant volume as a relay would be, seemed to fade.. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
