[Elecraft] P3 Has empty connector hole!
Good Evening Elecraft Engineers; It's about this empty connector hole in the P3 back panel and al that unused room inside the case. I really enjoyed installing the SVGA system earlier this year and the firmware for keyboard action was fun too. Since Christmas time is here and wishes for new toys abound, could we have a hint as to what will fill up some of this P3 enclosure void. That information alone would be a nice little present. [Elecraft] KX3 a real welcome to "Murphy's Law" Deja vu once again.
Hello Everybody; I have just completed the latest addition to the "shack", a meticulously constructed KX3. Great amounts of TLC was used, remembering lessons learned from my K2 construction in days gone by. Looking around for a power cable, I grabbed the DC CAR Adapter cord from my YAESU PA-6, plugged it in to the KX3 and into a 12Amp battery pack I have always on charge. Holding breath, I carefully depressed the power buttons and... NOTHING... AARGH!!! After calming down a bit, recovering from hyper ventilation and the consumption of an adult beverage, I got out the DVM and checked the power plug for voltage. -13.6V negative! What the hey. Checking the YAESU battery pack, I re-learned a lesson from 15 years ago, the polarity is reversed in the charging connection plug. Reversed the voltage connection and violets! Its Alive! Didn't take any lightning either. Great thanks to the Expert Engineering Arm of the Elecraft Co. Also to the Lads and Lassies that packed all the correct parts so well. Best regards to All. [Elecraft] K3 remote keypad option
Hi there fellow Elecrafters; I am very interested in a remote key pad too and with that thought in mind, I took a look through the K3 programming manual to see just what might be great command candidates for a "few extra keys on the side". Good Grief! There's a whole lot of good stuff there and everything looks like prime rib! What the heck would the most desirable auxiliary key functions be? There must be a few that leap to mind that would ease operation or would be just plane fun to use. Many Thanks Bill; Now that's a really slick little monitor. Gotta buy one. I couldn't help it, my P3-vga card is coming and I defiantly needed a new monitor but don't have much space. This is perfect for my purposes. Touch screen too! What a deal. I'll share the display through a KVM switch with my micro box PC or buy another one for dedicated display. Greetings fellow P3 fanciers; Well, I've consulted the P3 manual and it's obvious that I must be getting blinder than I thought in my advancing years. ;o) My p3 displays a small arrow at the bottom of the screen, sometimes pointing to the left and sometimes to the right. Hi fellow Elecrafters; My My new P3 (S/N 1734) started its career this evening and is a smashing success! The only complaint I have is there wasn't enough constructing to do. I DO wish that the dynamic duo, Eric and Wayne would consider offering these "kits" with a little more hands on in the form of, at least, a small portion involving soldering work just so a fella could get the feeling of more accomplishment and in that, take even more pride in ownership. [Elecraft] K3 Push to Talk Circuit
Hi Everybody; Since K3 technology is spoken here, I'd like to pose the following question. What is the maximum resistance on the K3 "PTT" keying line that will activate this function? A resistor at the front panel "MIC" plug, between PTT (pin 2) and ground ( pin 7) to activate the "PTT" function. I couldn't find any info in the manual and so thought I'd bring my request here. Hi Everybody; As the KUSB discussion thread continues on, I'd like to suggest an alternative. All motherboards, except 40 year old ones, sport a PCIE port or two. There exists a whole bunch of converter cards that ride the PCIe bus and convert to serial ports, parallel ports, printer ports and most any other data transfer protocol. A good example of this can be found at Tigerdirect.com. A PCIe bus to printer port with two com ports adapter card for $39.95. What a deal! Hi Everybody; Don just reminded me to check the math in the DL1 "Manual" and update it if necessary. Good Idea! I also got out the W1 and checked my K2 power output Vs the W1 and my DVM voltage reading at the DL1 test points. They all read about the same *within 10% but* which reading would be the most accurate? I suspect it would be the DL1 but it would be nice to know for sure. Ok RF Engineers, all thoughts are welcome! [Elecraft] KNB2 Mod... OK!
Hi everybody; My next door neighbor just purchased a new 40"+ flat screen TV. When He turned it on, my little K2 just about jumped off the operating table! The EMI is pretty bad. After thinking about a non violent cure for a while I discovered a little mod to my KNB2 that turned out to really work. The addition of a 0.1Uf cap between the emitter of Q2 and ground proved to be quite effective in taking the interference noise level down quite a bit. It's not gone entirely but is nowhere near as bad as it was. The mod may be found in the Tech. notes section, K1/K2 mods, "excellent index of customer mods" kept by Sverre LA3ZA. To continue, LA3ZA unofficial guide to K2 mods, general mods for any K2, KNB2, noise blanker knb2, Increase low threshold sens. BY Stefan DL7MAJ. Whew!!
