[Elecraft] United Microsystems BCD-14
Hi... Would like to hear from anybody using a Unified Microsystems BCD-14 Automatic Band Decoder with a K3/KPA500. If you are using the BCD-14 with a DXEngineering Remote Antenna Switch...so much the better. To avoid list clutter, feel free to reply off-list. Thanks! 73, Ray - ND8L K3-SN 6150 KPA500 SN1914 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] From WRTC 2010 Blog
Not sure where Keith was going with his comments on the K3... My FT-2000D and my FT-1000MP both needed some tweaking to get them where I wanted them. Any modern radio does...it's called a learning curve. I took my K3 to VP9I for the 2013 CQ-WW RTTY contest and prior to the contest probably didn't have ten hours experience on the rig. Have to say that compared to my Yaesu rigs and some ICOMs I've used...the K3 was like a comfortable old shoe by the time the contest started. All that being said, back in 2010, according to G3SXW, over 50% of the rigs used at WRTC were the K3. Here's a piece cut from that post. (I did a Google search on WRTC 2010 Equipment): - Some Interesting WRTC Statistics These were put together by Roger Western G3SXW: There were 48 Teams each with two transceivers: (for a total of 96 rigs) # Elecraft K3 - 49 # IC756PROIII - 17 # FT1000MP - 16 # Two each: TS850S, IC756, IC7800, FT2000 # One each: FTDX9000D, Ten-Tec Orion, IC775DSP, Orion 565AT, Elecraft K2 The winning five teams all used FT1000MP or Elecraft K3. -- Can't wait to see the equipment list from the WRTC 2014 competition 73, Ray - ND8L K3# 6150 KPA500# 1917 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] Traveling and US Customs
*Most commercially made ham gear looks like some kind of cell phone and is usually passed in the USA. I have found great variance in inspection by airport; generally tighter in small airports. I always carry my license and a business card attached to the radio. Going into Canada you want to bring along your invoice to prove it was purchased in the US to get thru customs on return. You need a passport to travel to Canada these days.* Sorry Ed...your advice when traveling internationally misses the mark a bit. Just remember folks...when you are traveling inside the USA, you probably won't run into any problems. I have to question how much my K3 looks like a cell phone...but I digress. Ed's right...it's probably not a bad idea to have your license with you. Ed's advice on going into Canada and returning through US Customs is a little shaky. As a US Customs Agent in Bermuda told me, anybody with a scanner and a color printer can dummy up an invoice. To extend that thinking, and remember you are dealing with Homeland Security, your license means that you have a license...period. It means absolutely nothing to the Customs Agent regarding what you are bringing into the US. Officially, your papers, as they say, are not in order. If you are planning on taking your gear out of the good ol' US of A (even to Canada)...the only way to guarantee that you'll clear US Customs with no problems, is by showing the agent a Department of Homeland Security CPB Form 4457 aka Certificate of Registration for Personal Effects Taken Abroad. This form is available the the web...you can Google it. You complete the form describing the articles you're taking overseas including serial numbers...then you have to go to a Customs Office to have the items inspected. I live near Youngstown, Ohio...the nearest Customs Office was at the Pittsburgh International Airport. Pain in the ass? Certainly! But remember, US Customs has the right to impound anything they deem as questionable...it's up to YOU to prove it's not. *73, Ray-ND8L, occasionally ND8L/VP9* __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Hi... Getting this message in the VFO-B area. Can't find reference to the battery in the K3 Owner's Manual or KE7X's book. Can somebody shed some light on this for me? [Elecraft] KDVR3 Memories from N1MM
Hi... Can memories 5-8 be keyed from N1MM Logger using the {CAT1ASC SWTxx;} macro command string? ...where xx is 21 for memory 1, 31 for memory 2, 35 for memory 3 and 39 for memory 4 I guess you have to hold the REC button to toggle between Bank 1 and Bank 2. Anybody know how to send a hold to the REC button to make the switch? I know my explanation ain't elegant...hopefully you get my drift.
