I got an RA number and sent my K3 to Elecraft for service going on 3 months now. It has not been seviced; nor diagnosed. I phoned a month ago and was told I was number 12 on the list. I phoned yesterday and was told I was number 8. [Elecraft] Failed K3
Here is my situation. I have an Elecraft K3 setup: K3 transceiver; Pan Adpter; KAT 500 tuner; KPA 500 , 500W power amp. All Elecraft, all plug compatible. In January in the middle of a QSO, the Elecraft transceiver stopped working. I got return authorization and returned the transceiver to Elecraft for service. They say that because of the number of units returned to them, it will be another 2 months before they can get around to mine. So I'm off the air for 3 months.. So what to do? Give Elecraft $5000 for a new K4; Buy a Yaesu FT Dx 10 with a very good receiver but is not easily plugged into the Elecraft K line; Buy an Icom 7300 which I have familiarity with and will be easy to attach; Go on eBay and buy a used K3 and hope that it works; or buy something else? When I get my K3 back, I either will keep what ever I buy now as a spare to use when the K3 fails again or sell off my entire K line and migrate away from Elecraft recognizing that their service is not like to improve and that I have alternatives. [Elecraft] K Line: Signal loss in a QSO
I have a K3, P3, KAT500 and KPA500. I was listening in the middle of a QSO and lost signal. I tested my antenna with a back up transceiver and the antenna and coax are good. The P3 still shows signals but only hiss comes out of the K3’s speaker. Keying the k3 by pressing the attached foot pedal turns on the red Tx light on the K3 but the display on the KPA500 shows an asterisk to the left of the power out reading of zero on its display. No signal goes to the antenna and nothing besides hiss comes out of the speaker. What should I do next? Thanks. [Elecraft] No power out of a K line.
I have an Elecraft K3, KAT 500 and KPA 500. I usually use it at full power with a 260’ off-center dipole on 160, 80, 40, and 20m. Last week, I tried it with a 140’ doublet on 160 meters to see if the tuner would be able to reduce the swr to enable operation on that band. Since then when trying it on any band with the off center dipole, it shows the K3 putting whatever power it is set to but then immediately drops to zero. Is this a matter of switch settings or did I burn something out? Thanks.
