[Elecraft] Morse code trainers
I like Morse Mania by Black Cat Systems. It teaches in the Koch pattern and is a program that will work on Apple computers. [Elecraft] how about a touch key?
I built a key kit from an article in QST November 2005, p. 28 and it works very well. It is silent and sensitive. It is presumably still available as a kit from the author, WA3ENK You provide the paddle material, coax cable, and container. I added a switch as I think the battery will run down if left in place when not used--but I don't remember. I added lead bullets to the plastic case i used case to serve as ballast. bob N5JYW ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] large vs. small
I've built smt and large component kits and agree the smt, of the larger size at least, is doable with adequate vision and coordination and magnification after learning the smt technique for soldering and handling parts. Nonetheless I prefer larger and more dials rather than cryptically labeled buttons on tiny radio devices. This is due to my habit of using a radio and then going on to something else and when I return I have to learn to use it again (in part)... I am also concerned how many small radios are not intuitive regarding their menus and without the manual one can be stuck. I don't know that a lot of people would want to build an advanced radio using all smt. None of this is in reference to Elecraft...love my K1 Bob N5JYW ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. If he couldn't be bothered then he forgot (as happened with my K1 kit). Now I find the ParcelFarce hold your goods at their depot and send a letter to you detailing the charges and giving a reference number that you need in order to pay the charge. Only after you've contected them by phone or letter will they send it out for delivery. You can't phone them to pay until you get the letter, becuase they can't identify your parcel by anything other than the customs reference number! For me this adds about 1 week to the process, as the initial letter from ParcelFarce is send 2nd class, the depot is on the UK mainland and I'm not, so after paying by credit card over the phone the parcel than needs an overnight trip on the ferry. Originally I could get goods from Elecraft in a week, even given my offshore, remote location, but now I'm lucky if it's here within 2 weeks. It annoys me that I can track the parcel from Aptos to Aberdeen and see it take 3 days at most, then have this stupid rigmarole of waiting for the 2nd class letter before I can arrange to pay the charges etc, which adds another week or more. -- G-GRP-Club 2377, QRP-ARCI 12384, SKCC 3214 Member : RSGB, ARRL Shetland Islands (EU-012) IP90GG Lerwick Radio Club : http://www.gm3zet.org -- Message: 2 Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2007 11:16:56 +0100 From: David Ferrington, M0XDF [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Elecraft] Re: Elecraft Digest, Vol 38, Issue 28 To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net elecraft@mailman.qth.net Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Not to 'nit pick' (but I'm going to anyway), you are on exactly the same time UTC wise, but locally, you may be way ahead!
[Elecraft] IC 735
Thank you for so many responses. I appreciate it. I took the radio out of the case to have a look. I think I will let the radio sit quietly for a while then try again-carefully checking each control setting-and if it doesn't function send it off to one of the recommended repair facilities. (Or maybe I'll pursue AM...) Bob N5JYW ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] Icom 735 inquiry
This radio, which I purchased new and have not modified, worked fine six months ago. Recently I discovered that it receives normally on all bands, the LCD functions normally, and the CW sidetone is OK , but it will transmit only on AM and FM. On SSB and CW the power output meter doesn't show power out and my field strength meter needle doesn't move. However the fan does operate and the Icom power supply becomes slightly warm when I attempt to transmit into the dummy load in these latter two modes. This state of affairs is the same into the antenna (when I discovered the problem) and into a dummy load. Years ago Icom replace the power transistors when it would not transmit, but I believe this failure was on all modes. Any ideas where to look for the problem? I am not an engineer or electronics technician, but have built many kits. Any suggestions about what I can try before sending it away would be appreciated. [Elecraft] K1 and Z match tuner questions
Hello everyone, I have a ZM-2 and a BLT tuner which I connect to an end fed wire of 33 feet length. Most of the antenna is outside, but it is only 10 feet above ground. I am using an inside counterpoise of 23 feet, mainly for 30M and works well on 40M too. The K-1 is for 20/15M. I notice that if I adjust either of the tuners for minimum LED brightness on 20M (the light does not go completely out) that the LCD on the K-1 shows one hatch mark when the key is closed. If I hold the key down and adjust the tuner without regard to the LED I can easily get the LCD to show 4 hatch marks. Could it be that the Z matches are so sensitive that LED out means 1:1 swr ratio and on means perhaps 1:1.3, etc. and bright means anything? Can I safely and to good effect tune the radio by hatch mark and ignore the LED? Why do you suppose the K-1 and Z matches don't agree? TNX for advice. [Elecraft] re: K1 frequency range
If I exchange C2 with C2a to expand frequency coverage to c. 150 khz will I need to re-peak all the filters and re-calibrate the receiver? Thanks. P.S.: the backlight kit is a wonderful addition to the K1. Bob N5JYW ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. I finally built my radio, #1348, and it works just fine. Many thanks to the owners/designers of Elecraft, to Don W3FPR who answered my tech inquiry and to Val and Victoria who packed the many parts so carefully.
