Re: [Elecraft] [Fwd: KSBW Field-Day Video with K3]
I think the neatest thing about this video is that there were YOUNG people there! That's encouraging. Nice press for Amateur Radio and Elecraft too. Re: [Elecraft] [Fwd: KSBW Field-Day Video with K3]
Wonder what she meant by the old way??? ;o) 73, Julius -- She's a child of the internet age. I've actually run into people who don't understand how a radio signal can pass over an ocean or continent without a satellite to relay it. They are so habituated to the limitations of VHF/UHF with their cell phones, FM radios, TV signals, etc., that they don't realize lower frequencies are capable of long distances. By golly, that's what Heinrich Hertz decided too, experimenting with his apparatus in the VHF range, and why all the experts of the 19th century knew that Marconi would fail because radio was useless if the signal had to pass through a hill or over the curvature of the earth. It's déjà vu all over again, as that irascible American ball player once observed... I see young new Hams regularly and I'm pleased too. Maybe they'll set the record straight about what HF can do one more time, Hi! Re: [Elecraft] [Fwd: KSBW Field-Day Video with K3]
I just wish we could get that kind of coverage and understanding over here. It appears in the US, the media and public are much more aware of the part amateur radio can play in national emergencies and just generally (you have a big country with places with no cell coverage etc). 73 de M0XDF, K3 #174 -- If all is not lost, where is it? Re: [Elecraft] [Fwd: KSBW Field-Day Video with K3]
Same situation over here David. Even in items about CB or pirate music transmitters the media misuses the term radio-amateur. If you say a technical/regulations exam is mandatory for this hobby people are highly surprised. Why do you need that to play deejay on the air? Even to the local authorities you have to explain putting up an antenna (which has restrictions here) is not for transmitting music Good commercial btw Eric, nice close ups of the brand label! And a well chosen contrast with the other eh.HF thingy. :-) 73' Paul PD0PSB David Ferrington, M0XDF wrote: I just wish we could get that kind of coverage and understanding over here.
