By contrast, in tracking mode the VFO always stays at the center of the screen and the frequency of the display changes to track the VFO as it is tuned. Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft P3 - Fixed Tune Mode
My guess would be that you don't have it connected to the K3 serial port correctly. If it isn't getting frequency information, it has to stay in scrolling mode. 73, /Rick N6XI -- Rick Tavan Truckee, CA On Mon, Apr 15, 2019 at 6:37 PM Ed gilliland wrote: > I am unable to put the P3 in "Fixed Tune Mode", the display remains > constant and the VFO A cursor moves across the display. > > I'm sure that I have something configured incorrectly but haven't been > able to discover the error. It's set to Full Span. Much [like nearly all] of the time, it works exactly as it should ... tune upward past the right edge and the display shifts to the next span segment and the cursor is at the left edge ... and vice versa of course. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2013 Cal QSO Party 5-6 Oct 2013 - www.cqp.org On 2/7/2013 3:57 PM, Alan Bloom wrote: Hi Fred, I assume you have MENU:FixMode set to something other than "Static"? __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Fred, It sounds like you have the menu selection "Fix Mode" set to Static. Select in the Menu and set it to "Half Span", "Full Span" or "Slide". Pick the one that works best for you. Re: [Elecraft] P3 - Fixed Tune Mode anomaly
Hi Fred, I use Fixed-Tune mode exclusively and I have never experienced the runoff you described. As soon as about half the VFO-A cursor disappears the screen refreshes with the cursor on the opposite side. On a mildly related subject, I'm aware of two ways to center the VFO-A cursor in Fixed-Tune mode without using the P3 knob. The first way is to hold the Span/Center button two consecutive times (hold-hold). The other is to set up one of the four programmable buttons (FN1-FN4) to change tracking mode. The button label will read FixTrack. Press it once and it changes from Fixed-Tune mode to Tracking Mode and the VFO cursor jumps to center screen. Press it again and your back in Fixed-Tune mode. So it's a push-push operation to get the cursor to center screen and return to Fixed-Tune mode. You can also have a K3 button perform this operation as a macro. 73, Mike K2MK k6dgw wrote > I run my P3 in fixed-tune mode. [Elecraft] P3 - Fixed Tune Mode anomaly
I run my P3 in fixed-tune mode. Every now and then [usually more "then" than "now"], the VFO A cursor will get to one side of the screen and disappear as I continue to tune up or down. The "cursor-is-that-way" arrow appears and the frequencies of the end points of the screen don't change. Adjusting CENTER will fix it. It happens repeatedly [but not often], it is not willfully repeatable, and doesn't seem to be band dependent. Anybody else seen this? Lu, Isn't tracking the VFO the way the P3 works when in "Tracking mode" ? Am I misunderstanding you? BTW, the split screen with inputs from both receivers is a great idea! [Elecraft] P3 Fixed Tune Mode
I think this is a very good idea. My preference of course would be if the "window" on the P3 would track/scroll as you move the VFO, keeping the VFO frequency centered, a la Icom. I realize that this would "mess up" the waterfall... So dont allow it when using the waterfall or a split spectrum/waterfall display! Just allow it when the unit displays only the spectrum display. The difficult thing would be to manage the fonts and the graticule... I dont know if there is enough processing power in the P3 MCU to deal with this. I would also like to add my vote for the ability to monitor my transmitted signal (without having to unplug the serial port) on the P3 display. But most of all, I would like to see a factory approved modification that would allow me to place the P3 on the IF output of my KRX3 so that I could monitor another band, say 10 meters, for signals while working a run on, for example, 20 meters. This output could be switchable from the K3 panel (Main RX/Sub RX). An even NEATER trick would be to split the screen to two displays, one the spectrum of the main, the other the spectrum of the sub. I would even accept a 50% screen refresh penalty for this feature, sort of like the spectrum display works on Orion. Knowing when the second band has signals on it without the cluster... *THAT* would really be a terrific thing to me! I also prefer to spin the VFO dial to a signal rather than using the markers and the push button. Maybe this will change later. I would prefer if the screen changeover would occur 1 or 2 KHz before the VFO cursor reaches the screen edge. And I would like my VFO cursor to be 1 or 2 KHz away from the edge after the screen refreshes.
