I lived in an apartment complex, and ran HF, VHF, and UHF. I had to be
stealthy about it, but I made it work. We were on the 3rd floor, with a
balcony facing a parking lot that had a copse of trees behind it. I could
attach a fishing sinker to the end of a piece of magnet wire and shoot it
into the trees. Then I used a random wire tuner to operate HF. I got a
bunch of contacts in Western Europe. Some were in the UK, and many were in
Ireland. Nobody was the wiser. For the local 2m repeater I tried a copper
J-Pole, sprayed with a textured fleck paint that matched the brick facade
of the building perfectly. It couldn't be seen from the ground at all, it
was that well hidden. But the neighbor below us had trouble with his clock
radio receiving our 2m activity, so I gave away the J-Pole and built a 2m
Moxon. That was hidden inside a wooden privacy lattice. We put 2 of these
little gazebo-like fences on the balcony, one on each end, and the antenna
was mounted inside one end. The null lobe was toward the building, and the
downstairs neighbor never complained again.

If I had to move into an apartment or other place that didn't allow outside
antennas, I have a usable small transmitting loop that I could use indoors
with some success. I've hit Bavaria with it using 5w with the antenna in my
house on my workbench, so it must be getting out. Just a cheap loop I got
on Ebay for around $100US

unit) condo building near Chicago, and the association is kind enough to let me 
put a Hustler antenna with three resonators on our first floor balcony.  It 
works but OK not great.  If you’re on a higher floor, you can do quite well 
from a condo.  

Is the building frame construction or steel framework with reinforced concrete 
slabs?  Wood frame construction is much better!

Hello all,

Putting my, well cared for, K2 up for another good home.
Not using it enough and would like it to go to someone while it's still 
operating as designed.  Rated power out on all bands and a nice quite receiver.
Been trying to downsize over the past few years in anticipation of a move to a 
smaller place, maybe a condo. Also not wanting to leave items as a burden to my 
wife and family if something happens to me. Not 20yrs old anymore! Or even 60!!

I built this one in 2003 and shortly after, three other K2's for other people.
Adding it up over the years, I don't think it could have 5 hours of operating 
time. 95% receive.
I've also built a K1, KX1 and various other radios over the years beginning 
with Heathkits. Latest was the 4SQRP Club's Paraset, next the Penntek TR-35. 
All sold.

This K2 has all the options "except" the 100w amp, DSP filter and battery.
All firmware is up to date, however, there may be an update available for the 
SSB board and possibly an optional mod.
I don't use SSB, just CW. The option was available then and works fine.
The photo may look like the display lighting isn't working properly. However, 
the lighting I used washed it out. Proves I'm no photographer! Display is fine.
Kept In a covered/no pet, no smoke environment.

You also get the K60XV transverter option which includes 60M.
I would rate this K2/10 overall, nearly a 10. One small scratch on the top rear 
(photo).

[Elecraft] FOR SALE K2 SER#7750 REVISITED

When I decided to sell my Elecraft K2 #7750, it was after weeks of 
deliberation. Since I am relocating to a senior’s apartment complex and 
will not be allowed a traditional ham station set up, a choice had to be 
made: it was either keep my K2 #7750 or my KX2 #1098. I must confess it 
was a difficult choice. I decided on keeping the KX2, because I rather 
enjoy P.O.T.A. type operations. The KX2 being more self-contained made 
the choice easier. Using the Elecraft AX-1 antenna system also made set 
ups easier. I can carry the whole station in a Harbor Freight tool case. 
I have more mode choices with the exception of FT8. I enjoy RTTY  and CW 
more than FT8. The result: my Elecraft K2 #7750 has to go.


When I built K2 #7750 it was intended to be a CW only station with 
computer control so only the KIO2 option was included. I document all my 
builds. You can see the complete documented build on my web site at

I had some issues with the build, so I sent it to Alan Wilcox who fixed 
the issue, aligned it, and also built and installed the KIO2 option for 
me. Then FT8 came along, so W5LA (Jim Ragsdale) built and installed the 
KSB2 option for me as I no longer felt qualified to do the work.


From Jan 24th until June 12th I made over 2,500 FT8 QSO's, including 
over 500 QSO's as a W5L special event station with K2 #7750 and various 
wire antennas: an 80/40 trap inverted vee and a 40/20 trap inverted vee 
@ 75'. All with this K2 #7750. Sideband operation is also available, 
however you will have to supply the

microphone.

I am offering my Elecraft K2 #7750 for sale for a reduced price of 
$700.00, including USPS Priority Mail shipping.

The frequency display alignment is easy enough to do, there is good information 
about this on the webpage of Don W3FPR:

I recommend the N6KR method which is linked on that page -- tune in WWV 
either zero-beating against a second AM shortwave receiver, or use spectrogram 
to see the frequency of the WWV tones, then use the N6KR method to align the 
VCO/BFO. With a bit of care, you can get the dial showing the right frequency 
to within 20Hz.

Hello Elecrafters,

A local ham, who does not know much English, needs to sell his K2 s/n 42xx to 
raise fund due to family issues.  This K2 was built by me and calibrated by 
spectrogram.  It consists of:

K2 basic HF transceiver 
KSB2 SSB module
KNB2 noise blanker
KAT2 antenna tuning unit
KDSP2 dsp unit
KBT2 - battery bracket (without battery)
K160RX - 160m + 2nd RX ant

Total current price = USD1520 + shipping

I am selling the K2 on behalf of the local ham.  The price is USD1000 including 
shipping by air parcel post to major countries and cites.  Payment can be done 
by paypal and wire transfers.  We can share the fees 50/50.

The rig has been little used and in non-smoking envirnoment.  Photos are

This unit is equipped with a KAT2
 antenna tuner and a KNB2 noise blanker. It is configured for the KSB2 sideband 
option, but the KSB2 accessory is not present.
This is a revision A board and is equipped with version 1.06f firmware.
It is in perfect
 operating condition, everything works correctly, and is aligned quite well. 
Cosmetically this unit looks very good. The front plate is clean, there are a 
few small scratches on the left side of
 the chassis. 
The manuals, RF probe, frequency counter probe, and the power cable are

Hi everyone-  Well the time has come to sell my station.  I'm living in an RV
and the wife says it goes. Some I'm going to do 2M/440 until we are off the
road in 5-7 years.  I have a K2/100 with the SSB, I/O, the Elecraft
microphone.  Also included are an Astron 25A power supply with Anderson
Power plugs.  The antenna is a KJ7U 6-160 screwdriver antenna with the whip. 
I've used this radio on QRO, QRP and PSK31 to make hundreds of contacts. 
But alas, I can't work mobile while driving the RV.  My loss - your gain.

Hi gang,

I have for sale three option modules for an Elecraft K2 transceiver, all of
which I bought from Elecraft in 2009 or later.  The first module is a
not-yet-built KIO2 RS-232 Serial Interface kit, new and untouched, which I
will sell for $60.  If you wish, I am willing to include an Elecraft KUSB
USB Adapter for the KIO2 (or KPA100) with the KIO2 for an additional $20,
which would bring the total price to $80.  The KUSB is new in the original
package and has never been taken out or used.  The second module is a
not-yet-built KNB2 Noise Blanker kit, new and untouched, which I will sell
for $40.  The third module is a fully assembled KDSP2 Advanced Internal DSP
Filter / Clock kit, which I will sell for $90.  I am an experienced kit
builder, I assembled the KDSP2 with great care, and I have double checked
the board and found no soldering errors or component placement errors.
However, I have *not* taken the final step of testing the KDSP2 in a K2 (I
no longer have a K2 in which to test it), so I cannot guarantee that the
unit works properly.  Therefore, I am selling the KDSP2 as is, with no
warranty.  I will include the appropriate manual with each module.  The
aforementioned prices include shipping within the U.S.  Payment by USPS
postal money order only.

I have for sale a QRP K2 that works great except for two problems. First,
the BFO range is restricted for some reason, which makes it impossible to
align the crystal filters properly. Second, there is a short between the 7
and 9 keys, such that pressing either of these keys has the same effect as
pressing both of them. The rig works perfectly in all other respects. The
rig has been aligned and its receiver specs and transmitter output power
are within specs on all bands. The rig is cosmetically excellent. This K2
includes the KBAT2 internal battery and the K160RX module, both of which
are installed and work properly. Price is $400 shipped anywhere in the
lower 48. USPS money order only.

Ladies and Gents:

I am selling my lovingly built K2 (#5717). I have a K1, K2, and K3.  
The K2 now no longer sees any service ... replaced by the K3. In a fit  
of jealousy, the K2 demanded a trade to a better team with a draft  
choice in return ... So, I've been rejected by my radio ... I'll show  
her ... I may just replace her with a vertical antenna and a bunch of  
ground radials! So there ...

K2 (10 watt) ... with the following options:
Complete set of unmodules with the mic adapter, K160RX (built but not  
installed), K60VX, KAF2, KAT2, KIO2, and KSB2. All it will require for  
the 160m option is to install the BNC adapter, and solder the center  
and ground leads from the board to the BNC. With the unmodules, the  
rest is plug and play.

If you were to purchase the kits for a new K2, you would spend $1300  
with Elecraft ... and you cannot purchase a full unmodule kit today (I  
paid $70 when I built the radio). In addition, the radio has had a  
final adjustment and alignment in October, 2009 by Don Wilhelm  
(W3FPR). I've used the radio once since the alignment ... You will  
receive every scrap of documentation that are in my files, cables,  
etc. etc.

I would like $1300 for it. We can discuss shipping. Paypal is OK ...

Selling my K2 #6233 that I just put on the air on October 2nd.  Rig
works perfectly, I have 147 QSOs logged since 10/2.  It is configured
as follows:

K2
K160RX
K60XV
KAT2
KIO2
KSB2
KNB2
MH2 Hand Mic

When I built it, I used Rework Eliminators (http://unpcbs.com/) so if
I ever wanted to remove an option, I just had to plug in a module
header and wouldn't have to do any re-work.  There is only one
modification done to this rig.  I build and installed a W3FPR Fixed
Level Audio circuit so I'd have a constant audio feed into my computer
for digital modes.  The install was very cleanly done and an RCA jack
was added to the back of the rig near the key jack.  I also installed
a piece of velcro to the outside right panel where I had my small
digital interface box mounted.  I think I may be able to remove the
velcro cleanly however.

Price new from Elecraft is $1212.00 and I have $35 in the Rework
Eliminators.  I would like $950.00 for the package and I will pay for
the shipping anywhere in the US.  Payment via PayPal is preferred.

 I have a K1 with all options including the 40, 30, 20, and 15 meter four band 
board (with blue trimmer caps) It also has a extra two band board set up for 80 
and 17 meters. It includes the noise blanker, internal automatic antenna tuner 
and internal battery option. It also includes the tilt stand Finger Dimple, 
precision metal shaft VFO pot and custom made TecPac carrying case. I will also 
include a set of NiMH batteries. This radio in perfect condition S/N 542   
Selling price $700 shipped con US


I also have a K2 with the KPA100 100 watt amp, the KAF2 audio filter, K160RX 
160 meter/receive antenna, the K60XV 60 meter/transverter interface, the KNB2 
noise blanker and the KSB2 SSB option with 2.5 KHz option. I also have and will 
include the QRP top with the KAT2 20 watt automatic tuner. The QRP top can be 
switched out with the KPA100 100 watt amp in about 5 minutes. The price of all 
of this from Elecraft is about $1600. My normal charge to build all of the 
above is $900 for a total of $2500. I will sell all of the above with all 
current mods, latest firmware version 2.04 for $1895 shipped con US. The radio 
is in perfect condition cosmetically, electrically and includes a 90 day 
warranty. The serial number is 3132. This radio is identical to the currently 
shipping versions of the K2. 


  Warranty: I will repair any K2,  K1 or KX1 that's fails due to my workmanship 
within 90 days. Shipping is not included on warranty work. New radios have a 
one year parts warranty from Elecraft.

  I have built 15 K2's to date (several in the split configuration) and 4 K1's. 
6 KPA100's, 3 KAT100's and all of the options many times. I built Wayne and 
Eric's personal radios and have been a field tester for Elecraft several times. 
I was a field tester for the XV50, XV144 transverters and have built 7 of them 
including the XV222 and the XV144 reviewed in the Oct issue of QST. I was also 
a field tester for the KRC2 band switching box and the KPA100. I have built two 
KX1's with all options so far. I have built one or more of everything Elecraft 
makes including all the micro kits. I also regularly repair, install mods and 
perform calibrations on Elecraft radios.
