This is true and just one more good reason to switch to the FTDI chipset.
My company just bit the bullet and replaced about 200 of the prolific 
devices for FTDI.
IT department headache number 5 alleviated.

Based upon experience with other rigs (I have not ordered the K3 yet) - 
I recommend using a real serial port on the computer. Then everything is 
native without translations or counterfeit chips.

I have 2 of the blue-ended cables, and both work just fine.  The cable itself 
has a 
clear jacket, full braid underneath.  They are a few years old however.

I searched the Nabble archives for an answer to this and couldn't find one.
After a long time since an update I connected the USB to serial cable today
and launched the K3 Utility.  I double checked and I have the latest
version of that.  The K3 Utility didn't recognize the K3.  I tried numerous
times and the only thing that changed since the last update is that I've
