[Elecraft] K3 Filter IMD/BDR specs

2007-09-13 Thread DOUGLAS ZWIEBEL
W4ZV sed:

[snip]
Elecraft promised to post full IMD/BDR
measurements for all filters but has not done so thus far.

[2nd snip]
I commend Elecraft for posting full data in advance but sure
wish they would get on with it so I can finalize my order
[end snip]

I heartily agree

What's the hangup with these measurements?

RE: [Elecraft] K3 Filter IMD/BDR specs

2007-09-13 Thread Charles Harpole

I either want a K3 or I do not.

If I do (and I do), I feel if the rig is good, the filters are good.

So, the exact measurements of anything in the radio are beside the point...
I know I want the radio and I want filters for narrow SSB and general CW, so
I add extra 1.8 and 500.

DONE (Note: I did this without worrying about data).

Now, if I am so worried about the exact data, then likely I should choose
another brand of radio, or simply quiet down until my exacting soul can be
satisfied LATER.

RE: [Elecraft] K3 Filter IMD/BDR specs

2007-09-13 Thread aestoev

If I do (and I do), I feel if the rig is good, the filters are good.

That's the sad part - how does one get the feeling just by looking at a
pretty picture, assembly manual with no schematics and a bunch of beta testers
who are probably biased to the elecraft products anyway?

My guess is that they (elecraft) will wait until enough orders are placed
before they release the numbers :-PPP (it's a joke so relax, I am not seeking
to be excommunicated from the Church of Elecraft :-)

My personal decision is to start even considering the K3 and eventually place
an order AFTER I see the schematics (when btw?), real performance numbers as
result of 3rd party lab test and reviews from unbiased users.
That's how I based my decision to order my K2/100 (I am happy with it btw).
This on the other hand is not a K2. What also bothered me is that Elecraft
promised the radio too early (probably because of Dayton) and now is chasing
deadlines due to inpatient customers (chasing deadlines' more often than not
equals cutting corners).
I've seen good and bad radios coming from one and the same company (Yaesu,
Icom, Ten-Tec, you name it) so I wouldn’t jump and dump few thousands dollars
into a black box, just because everyone says it is going to great.

If you leave the guys (Wayne and Eric) alone to work I think it would be for
the best. They have as much interest in delivering the radio as the ones who
are waiting for it.

My 2 cents.

In that case you may have wasted your money as you haven't given one of
the valid reasons for buying the optional filters. They are roofing
filters, not primary selectivity filters.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.
