As someone who doesn’t have a wired Ethernet connection in the shack, I can assure anyone concerned about updating a K4 via wireless, that an ordinary WiFi extender with an RJ45 Ethernet port works fine. I use a Netgear AC1200 (EX6120) with a 5 metre Cat6 fully shielded patch cable. It works fine. Let me try again: If you don't have wired ethernet conveniently available near your K4, get a "Ethernet Extender" such as this: https://www.amazon.com/Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter-Extender-TP-Link/dp/B084CZMYNM/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=ethernet%2Bextender&qid=1650918537&sr=8-6&th=1 The device connects to your WiFi network. It also has an RJ45 connector. No other setup that I'm aware of. Just plug in wired RJ45 Ethernet with active DHCP and an IP address appears on the K4 menu. Tap Fn|UPDATE and you're in dialog to download the latest or a prior release. Easy peasy. The K4D default is DHCP client enabled, and as you point out almost all home routers are configured as DHCP servers. The only time I have seen when they are not is if someone had changed it.
