Hi Don,

Yes I'm aware of that but thanks for reminding me. Having an RMA first is
definitely the proper procedure.

Besides, you should *never* just send an Elecraft radio to Watsonville for
repair.
There are repair depots all over the globe.
Contact support, and if warranted, they will request an RSA number for you.
When you get the email with the RSA form, fill it out and read the 2nd page
to find out where to send it.

Hi Tom,

Yes I'll talk to Gary before I send anything back to the factory. The rig
has been back before so I know the procedure. I'll call him tomorrow.

Thanks and have a great day.

give you some tests to make to determine if you have the same problem as

BTW - some of the obvious things to check first would be to insure you
aren't in test mode or that the TX INH pin is not set or floating (check in
the Config menu).

output from my LPA board. It is currently at Elecraft being serviced. I have
not heard from them yet as to the exact cause. It's only been in for a week

I used a scope to verify I had RF coming into the board and a logical high

I found this trying to tune up as you did and saw the same two dashes on the
display.
Hope this helps.

[Elecraft] KAT3 problem

2012-07-06 Thread Barry Garratt
When I hit the ATU TUNE button this evening the tuner sounded like it was
doing something but instead of the usual display of VSWR as it tuned there
were only two dash lines.

The problem is not band dependent.

Anyone ever seen this before and if so what was the cure?

Thanks.

[Elecraft] KAT3 problem?

2012-04-07 Thread Peter Collins
My K3 is only 4 days old so I am still becoming familiar with it and the
controls and I still have a big smile on my face!
It is 100W unit with KAT3. I occasionally get HI SWR readings and have
noted the following effects.
10W into 50 ohm load display shows 1.6:1 ATU bypassed, with the ATU tuned
it SWR=2.2:1
My TH3jr has a 1:1 SWR at 14.160 with external SWR meter. The K3 shows
1.0:1 with ATU bypassed and 2.4:1 with ATU in circuit and tuned.
Can anybody shine some light on this?

Cheers Peter

Thanks Gary,
I redid the power calibration and the tuner tunes the dummy load all ok.
It still struggled with the 40 dipole (native swr, as measured by the
K3, is 1.6:1)

Thanks Gary,

It still struggled with the 40 dipole (native swr, as measured by the
K3, is 1.6:1) and would only get a match of 1.4:1. But I put in a short
length of coax as you suggested and now it can find a 1.1:1 match,
although still with some struggle. No external switches, wattmeter etc.
Thanks,

Hi Fred,

Can you try a slightly different length of feedline to see if that helps
the tuner find a better match?

Just add or remove a length of coax if that is possible.

Be sure the screws in the KAT3 and ANT1, ANT2 connectors are all very
tight.

Try a different ground connection too, and the K3 is connected as
directly to the antenna as possible (no external antenna switches, SWR
or wattmeters, etc.).

Try lower power levels too (the tuner always uses 5w or less when it
operates).

Make sure the antenna and feedline has no bad connections, and use a SWR
analyzer to check its match if you have one such as the MFJ-259B.

If a powerful AM, FM, TV, or pager antenna is nearby, it might be
affecting the tuner's operation on the antenna.

Thanks Tom. Been there done that and that's what it acts like

ant selection is OK. I can bypass the atu and it sees the dummy

fine. Would there be any filters or anything that are used on 7

only?

Fred:

Double check that you somehow didn't manage to get ANT2 set as
the
default antenna selection for those bands... if so, you're
probably
tuning into NO ANTENNA...!

Re: [Elecraft] KAT3 problem

2008-04-25 Thread Lee Buller
Julius

I think that is by design that it tunes at 5 watts to get a good matchso it
can take the 100 watts into a properly tuned match. I think the tuner would
have an issue at 100 watts at 4:1. But it doesn't have an issue a 5 watts.

If you go to XMIT.after you run the tunerthen you will see the 100
watts output.

It seems like it tunes and switches properly, just
can't get 100W.
