[Elecraft] Elecraft] KX3; Firmware Update

2019-10-03 Thread R
Regarding the timeset function on the KX3 utility program (Windows). It
does have that. It was my oversight - I just didn't see it. Regarding the
RTC calibration function - it sounds like that may not be feasible due to
the design of the radio. Thank you all for pointing out the location of the
timeset function

Re: [Elecraft] KX3; Firmware Update

2019-10-01 Thread Dave B via Elecraft
Hi.

The KX3 Utility Rev 1.18.7.3 (the Linux version* at least) does have a
"Set KX3 Time" function, under the "Configuration" tab.

Perhaps there is a later rev utility for your system OS, than you have
at the moment?

compatibility stuff installed.)

Re: [Elecraft] KX3; Firmware Update

2019-09-30 Thread Grant Youngman
I had actually forgotten that “absolute mode” for the S-meter still showed up
as “TBD” on the KX3. I re-discovered it while following the instructions for
radio setup prior to calibrating opposite sideband null. I was also hoping for
synchronous AM, but that didn’t show up either, although I don’t recall it ever
being advertised.

Neither is particularly critical for most KX3 users if you aren’t using the
radio as the main station, although there’s much to be said for both features.

Perhaps the 8 cores of processing power in the KX4 will include these? :-) :-)

It was pointed out to me that the Utility already has the KX3 setting
function under the "Configuration" tab (I missed that somehow), and also
that the design of the RTC in the KX3 may not allow for tuning via firmware.

Is there any chance of a future firmware update including the RTC correction
factor that the KX2 has? Also - it would be nice if the KX3 utility had the
same "Set KX2 Time" function that is in the KX2 - it makes it super quick to
recalibrate.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Firmware update trouble

2019-03-24 Thread Dave Sublette
Dick and list,

We have successfully updated the firmware for the DSP and the MCU. The
problem occurred as we were trying to install with the KXPA100 in line. I
removed it and connected the computer directly to the KX3 and all went
well. Later, we were able to connect the KXPA100 and confirmed that the
KXPA100 has the latest firmware.

Thanks to Dick and all of you who monitor this list and contribute support.

2019-03-24 Thread Bob N3MNT
Have you tried this.
If you accidentally load an old or incompatible
firmware version and find the KX3 unresponsive,
do the following: (1) Unplug the KX3 from the
power supply. If internal batteries are installed, also
remove one battery. (2) Plug a power supply in (or
reinstall the removed battery). (3) hold the KX3’s
BAND- and ATU TUNE together for about 10
seconds, after which you’ll see the TX LED flash
(you’ll also see MCU LD on the LCD). (4)
Connect the KX3 to a computer and run KX3
Utility, which will load new firmware.

[Elecraft] KX3 Firmware update trouble

2019-03-24 Thread Dave Sublette
We were doing a firmware update (my son and I). All went well until the KX3
became stuck in the MCU LD condition. We followed the manual instructions
(several times).

The KX3 is still stuck and the computer cannot find the KX3 port. The
computer recognizes the cable, but communications fail with the KX3.

We have rebooted the computer and restarted the KX3 utility without
success. The Kx3 utility is the latest. We successfully downloaded it and
installed before we started.

What can we do next?

Maybe other Linux flavors put users in this group by default or others
used a root account instead of their own.

If you add yourself to the group dialup like this:

In a terminal do at the ~$ prompt:

sudo usermod -a -G dialout username

where username should be your name as shown on the prompt before the @...

log out then log in again and start the utility. By then it should work ok. At
least to me it did:-)

Canonical seems not to like people to mess around with group policies therefore
leaves out a gui application to set them.

should you still want one:
sudo apt-get install gnome-system-tools

Recovery now underway. I suspected that Ubuntu had re-installed Modem

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 firmware update (12-kHz audio spur fixed, etc.)

2013-08-21 Thread Dave Van Wallaghen
I tried this firmware yesterday and it curred some audio artifacts I was
hearing. My guess is that I was picking up some mixing artifacts from
the 12 kHz spur that made my KX3 audio sound somewhat harsh, almost
raspy. I especially noticed it with CW notes.

I emailed Wayne about this firmware release and he thought that it might
help - and it did. I wasn't able to do a side by side comparison, but I
did switch between firmware releases a few times and I could definitely
hear a difference. It now sounds warmer and more well rounded, similar
to my K3. It is a lot less fatiguing on my ears.

I told Wayne that I can't believe I can still hear stuff like this after
35 years or so in the fire service. Hopefully I can keep it that way.

Thanks to Wayne (and everyone else at Elecraft) for continually
improving the KX3 experience.

73,
Dave W8FGU

Hi all,

We're putting the finishing touches on a KX3 field-test firmware release that
eliminates the 12-kHz audio spur reported earlier this week. I can't hear it,
myself, but I can see it on my spectrum analyzer. In our lab tests the spur is
knocked down into the noise -- around 20 dB reduction. Hopefully this will do
the trick.

The fix we implemented is an improvement on turning on the RX I/Q menu entry.
The new method only increases current drain by 3 to 4 mA, while setting RX I/Q
to ON increases current drain by about 10-15 mA.

This release also includes corrected Weaver-mode SSB receive demodulation
(greatly reduced opposite-sideband image), and all of the ATU tuning improvements
mentioned earlier.

If you've been bothered by either the Weaver demod issue or the 12-kHz spur,
please email me directly so I can send you the new code.

If you sent me a request earlier, and didn't get it yet, that's because I was
making further improvements. You're still on my list.

Interesting. Well, I and a number of other testers have noted better fidelity,
and the op who had measured the in-band OSB image at 20 dB reported that it had
dropped significantly.

I've been listening to music in the AM broadcast band in SSB mode with FL2

2013-08-18 Thread Wayne Burdick
I just confirmed that the opposite-sideband image is way down. I believe John
was hearing the effect of the notch at 1500 Hz, which is a characteristic of
Weaver demodulation. When you inject a carrier and sweep through the SSB
passband, the existence of the notch can make it appear that you're hearing
both desired and image signals -- but what you're really hearing is just the
tone at different pitches on either side of the notch.

[Elecraft] KX3 firmware update (12-kHz audio spur fixed, etc.)

2013-08-16 Thread Wayne Burdick

(greatly reduced opposite-sideband image), and all of the ATU tuning
improvements mentioned earlier.

If you've been bothered by either the Weaver demod issue or the 12-kHz spur,
please email me directly so I can send you the new code.

If you sent me a request earlier, and didn't get it yet, that's because I was
making further improvements. You're still on my list.

tnx
