[Elecraft] OT - Lithium memory batt
Hoping to take advantage of the knowledge base here. Does anyone know of a battery suitable for memory backup (installed life = 5 years or more) that uses a chemistry other than lithium? And hopefully comes in the coin cell configuration? I need to order some CR2032 size, with solder tabs or PC pins, but the vendors tell me that lithium cells cannot be sent via the postal service, and I refuse to pay upwards of $25 shipping via UPS or FedEx for a $2.00 battery. -Jim, KL7CC __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Guess it depends upon the current demand, but some of my old home-built pc's going back to a 486 processor machine used a couple of AA alkaline cells. I changed them every year or two when I opened the system box to blow out the dust and evict any critters who took up residence. 73, Ron AC7AC -Original Message- Hoping to take advantage of the knowledge base here. The 9V alkaline cell that backs up my alarm clock is going on 5 or 10 years now. Jim: There are other batteries but none that will last ten years and give you 3 volts. I understand you not wanting to pay the surcharge UPS wants for a lithium battery transport but there is a simple solution. Buy the CR2032 battery holder from Digikey and have it shipped first class mail. Then head into town, Anchorage if you must, and head for a drugstore for the CR2032. Ten years from now when you replace it again you won't have to even heat up the soldering iron. 73 Fred, AE6QL -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Jim Wiley Sent: Thursday, November 01, 2012 2:03 PM To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] OT - Lithium memory batt Hoping to take advantage of the knowledge base here.
