[Elecraft] Rediculous, unreasonable and selfish firmware feature request..

2004-11-09 Thread Tom Althoff
While playing with the K2 during SS I took advantage of the Fast Play mode
and found it fantastic for repeats etc. I kept thinking...wow..if this had
a button to press that would send a QSO # in CW and increment the number for
the next keypress I could do a quick and have the
full SS exchange sent.

While I'm asking for the sky it would be great to have 2 buttons...one that
sends the QSO # and then increments it and another that sends the previous
QSO # for repeats. You would send the exchange using the "QSO # and
increment it" button and if the other station asks for a repeat you hit the
"previous QSO #" button.

Like I say in the subject...this is a rediculous thing to ask Wayne and Eric
to come up with since it is so limited an appeal but, man oh man, would a
stand-alone K2 become nearly robotic in contests!

I realize that most contesters key the rig using their computer logging
software but I'm thinking about when I have the K2 up at the cabin with no
computer around and just a paper and pencil for logging.

Just dreaming in NY,
Tom K2TA

For what its worth, this seems to be a pretty good idea to me. The only thing
I would add to the feature would be to allow for a remote set of buttons which
a user could build. Like and outside box so that the box could he close to the
key paddle...or...have the buttons on the paddle so one does not have to move
the hand so far to hit the buttons.

This is what we did before computer logging...with memory keyers...like in the
80s.

2004-11-09 Thread Don Melcher
Not so far fetched - my Icom 703 (nice features - so-so receiver) has
that - as well as others I own or have owned. Perhaps it would be easier
implement in conjunction with the KRC2 or some similar device. The 703
uses the four buttons along the bottom of the display - 3 memory You
could also find yourself an old AEA Morse Machine - I have a couple of
MM3 models and they do what you want. But I know, it would be nice to
have it all in one box.

I second that thaught.
The IC-746 I once in the time owned had that feature.
I would love this in the K2.
What about a menuoption "cont on/off" That completly switch memorykeyer to
contestmode and automatically switch to fastplay on any given numbers?

That would be nice.
After contest you go to secondary menu and choose cont off and the
memorykeyer is back to ragchewing.

Just a thaught.

I think that some of the more elaborate external keyers have something like
this.
You might check around. You might be able to get there that way.

This sounds an awfully lot like you are asking for the KRC2. In fact
with the right configuration, the KRC2 could easily do this, AND it
already has four buttons to play with. No need to change the K2, just
come up with a specific configuration request for the KRC2!
