Re: [Elecraft] Seeking input on 3rd-party microphones used with our transceivers
Wayne, If you are seeking connections for various microphones, I can suggest you consult the extensive list of microphone schematics and pinouts compiled by G4WPW (SK). his information is preserved at https://www.qsl.net/g4wpw/date.html. It does not have any 'mic quality' information, but if you are compiling a list of adapters, it is a great resource. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/28/2022 1:53 PM, Wayne Burdick wrote: If you're using a non-Elecraft mic with any of our radios (K2, K3, K4, KX2, KX3), please send me a very brief reply with the manufacturer, model number, and a note about whether any modifications were required. A mic, what's that? LOL When I have operated phone, I either use my old Shure 444, or, for a headset/boom mic, a Koss SB-45 (comfortable and $50). I receive great audio reports from either of them. I have the Zoom Q2n video camera. I use it as a studio quality microphone as well as a web cam and a stand alone video recording device. I have only used a few of its capabilities too. If you need stereo sound capability this tool works well. 73, Kevin. KD5ONS On 1/30/22 18:59, Gwen Patton wrote: I use a Zoom H4n "Handy Recorder" as my primary system mike. Re: [Elecraft] Seeking input on 3rd-party microphones used with our transceivers
OK I give up , since MOST of know that ANYTHING that is called a microphone , ( maybe with the exception of a carbon mic ), can be hooked up to an elecraft prompts the question " what is Wayne looking for ??? I have hooked up the military H250 dynamic handset , bunches of Shure handhelds..and MFJ micromics like the 295. With the required 3 conductor cable & TRS plug EVERYTHING works. Some better some not so hot...but with EQ most sound great. An electret condenser is WAY beyond requirements of comm audio. If you want a fancy 'studio style' check out the amazon 28$ BM-800 series as it even come with a boom assembly & windscreen for the ultra cool. Since any electret you can find will work. The BM800 electret plugs into the back jack on a K3/k4. I just bought an electret boom headset at HomeDepot for $9.99 with 3.5mm plugs, great for KX2 trips to the beach. Maybe there is a small container on the seas full of several micro, mini and 'studio' mics from Elecraft. SInce electret mics cost a few dollars , probably makes NO business sense. All MFJ needs to do is put a proper TRS plug on their minis which are perfect for the Kx2/3. Sounds like way too much effort to maintain a hookup sheet for the variables. * * *There are 3 wires which most hams can swap till they get it right.** * end of rant.
