Re: [Elecraft] Utility of 1.8-KHz vs 2.1-KHz Filter for SSB?
I agree on this. The 2.1 will give you better audio if you need it. It will, as a roofing filter, perform just as well in a heavy ssb contest as a 1.8 . 73 Arie PA3A -Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] Namens Ignacy I find 1.8 of little use unless stations have signals with highs greatly boosted, like in contest signals. Unless winning the contests is a priority, 2.1 is IMHO a much more comfortable choice. Ignacy ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Yeah, that's what I do too. It'd be nice if the "NORM" setting in SSB mode could handle that - or maybe if it could be customisable... ~Iain ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Jeff, the 1.8Khz roofing filter is very usable (preferred) in contest condx, but you will have to adjust the shift downwards for maximum intelligibility as you narrow the bandwidth. In ssb contests, I usually just set width narrow, adjust shift and leave the K3 there for the entire contest. 73, Barry N1EU -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Utility-of-1.8-KHz-vs-2.1-KHz-Filter-for-SSB--tp2141819p2142311.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] Utility of 1.8-KHz vs 2.1-KHz Filter for SSB?
Hi, I just use the HI-CUT knob to crank down the bandwidth until the QRM disappears and this will automatically select the 1.8kHz if appropriate. I don't hear a dramatic improvement once the 1.8 kicks in so I don't know if it was worth the money. I never use the XFIL button for anything. I prefer to think of the radio as having (almost) continuously variable passband tuning and let the radio choose the correct filter. [Elecraft] Utility of 1.8-KHz vs 2.1-KHz Filter for SSB?
For those using the 1.8-KHz roofing filter for SSB in crowded band conditions, how usable is it? Does it require much "fine tuning" of controls when switching from a 2.8-KHz filter, or can it be as simple as just selecting the filter? I've used similar filters for the FT-1000MP, and had no problem making signals intelligible when switching between wide and narrow SSB filters. I like the idea of using a 1.8-KHz filter on CW as well, to supplement my current selection of 250-400-1000 Hz. I'm preparing to carry my K3 to the PJ2T contest station to give it a workout in the CQWW 160 CW Contest, and to try it out in the challenging pileup conditions we can generate down there on SSB outside of the contest. I sill have time to order a couple of filters before I depart! 73, Jeff K8ND ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
