[Elecraft] W2 Connection Issues
Thanks to all who responded on this and all is now working properly. Last evening, as I was pulling my hair out on this problem, the software suddenly recognized the W2 and I was in business. This was after I had plugged/unplugged the W2 end of the cable dozens of times, reloaded drivers, etc. At the time, I thought maybe the problem was a dirty or corroded plug or jack as the previous owner had never connected the W2 to his PC. After reading these recent posts, it's also possible that I powered down/up the W2 while the software was running. At any rate, I cleaned the plug with DeOxit and inserted it several times into the jack and it's still working well. I calibrated the W2 against my LP-100A and a setting of 498 on the W2 resulted in about 5 watts difference between the two at the 1,500 watt level. The difference at lower power levels was a bit more or less than that depending upon the level. 73, Floyd - K8AC Solar powered K2 and other stuff __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] W2 connection issues
It may be worth checking this about USB port power management. This feature has been known to cause difficulties. https://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/prevent-windows-from-powering-off-usb-device / - 73 and good DX de Mike, K6MKF, Past President - NCDXC > -Original Message- > From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net > On Behalf Of k...@kq8m.com > Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2019 8:42 AM > To: 'Jim Spears' ; elecraft@mailman.qth.net > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] W2 connection issues > > Hi Jim, > > If you figure it out please let us know. Re: [Elecraft] W2 connection issues
Hi Jim, If you figure it out please let us know. I have the same problem with a Win 7 machine. Everytime I start the software I must turn the W2 off then back on for it to be detected even though the software sees the com port. 73 Tim, KQ8M k...@kq8m.com -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Jim Spears Sent: Thursday, March 7, 2019 08:34 To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] W2 connection issues I have two W2 units that I use with different K3's and different W10 computers. The other seems to be able to connect just fine. I have not spent any time trying to figure out why one requires the off/on sequence but just live with it. There may something in the physical connection to the computer. i.e. through a USB port, through a COM port, etc. Jim/N1NK __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] W2 connection issues
I have two W2 units that I use with different K3's and different W10 computers. One of them is reluctant to connect when I start up the W2 utility program. So I power the W2 off and back on with the utility program active and it connects just fine. This is consistent behavior. The other seems to be able to connect just fine. I have not spent any time trying to figure out why one requires the off/on sequence but just live with it. There may something in the physical connection to the computer. i.e. through a USB port, through a COM port, etc. Jim/N1NK __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
