[Elecraft] W2 firmware

2021-04-17 Thread Claude Cousineau
Good day, I just purchased a w2 and followed the requested steps to install the
new firmware V1.0 , now I don't know what was install from factory because I
did not try it before loading v1.0 the power is about 10% low and swr is ok the
problem is that the alarm won't work , on power on I ear the relay cycle , I
made sure to enter an a in the utility program to get the answer a1 that tells
me that protraction is on, but when swr is higher then 5 to 1 alarm doesn't
trip the relay, I think it's a firmware issue! Does anyone have a previous
version for the w2 so that I can try it? Thanks for reading this 73

[Elecraft] W2 Firmware Suggestion

2010-01-04 Thread Bill Miner
With all the recent discussion about the W2 I decided to actually read the
on-line manual and check the specs for my self.

Upon further reading I discovered that to set the SWR alarm feature it is
necessary to have a PC connected and to set the alarm each time the unit is
powered up.

If possible, it would be nice to be able to turn on the alarm feature from the
front panel of the W2 and once set,  have the alarm enable in memory so that it
was not necessary to do this every time the unit is power cycled..

OBTW I am very pleased with the current firmware load for the K3.

Thanks & 73,

[Elecraft] W2 firmware anomaly

2013-05-26 Thread Matt Moller
Good afternoon all. Today I decided to dust of my W2 and put it back in
service but had something odd happen after updating the firmware (from
0.94 to 1.00) and was wondering if anyone else had seen this. The
firmware load went fine and afterward everything was working great
except for adjustment of the SWR alarm trip point. Sending the [ and ]
commands with the W2 Utility always resulted in a response of [00; or
]00; regardless of how many times they were sent. This happened whether
or not the alarm function was enabled or a sensor was connected to the
W2. I also tried powering it off then back on, restarting the W2
utility, etc. with no changes. All other commands worked as expected. My
computer (Windows 7) doesn't have a real serial port so I'm using the
KUSB cable with FTDI chipset which has never given me any trouble.

I noticed that firmware v0.94 did not have this capability and I had
never used the alarm function before anyhow. Maybe that had something to
do with it? I finally thought that maybe a plug had to be in the 'REM'
jack on the back of the unit for the alarm function to respond so I
tried that. The first reponse was again [00; but after that it came back
with [50; indicating it was set for 5.0 and it started working as it
should. I was then able to vary the trip point up and down (from 1.2 to
5.0) and get the response I expected. After that I tried removing the
cable and it kept working, power cycling the unit (including turning off
the power supply it was connected to) with and without the cable and it
kept working. It seems to be fine now, so I'm not sure what I did or
didn't do. I built the W2 from the "kit" if that matters, but it has
always worked great excluding this. Thanks for your input.

Re: [Elecraft] W2 Firmware Suggestion

2010-01-05 Thread Bill K9YEQ
Bill,

I find once I set on the PC it stays on even when I shut down. This may not
be reflected in the current manual. I think there will be additional work
on the software.

Re: [Elecraft] W2 Firmware Suggestion

2010-01-05 Thread Brian Broggie
Hi, Bill!

The ability to save the Alarm state was added in rev 0.93 (rev 0.94 is
the current rev). You still need a pc to set it, but it will stay that
way from then on. The front panel "Sensor" button clears the Alarm
message (flashing SWR LED's) and resets for the next high SWR condition.
Please use the "Elecraft W2 Utility" program to update your W2's
firmware and enjoy this feature. If you are not familiar...

[Elecraft] W2 Firmware release to Rev 0.90

2009-11-18 Thread Brian Broggie
*New W2 Firmware Information*

*Rev 0.90, 18-Nov-2009*

  * EXTERMINATOR RELEASE:

1. Mode of PK-HOLD LED was not being saved to EEPROM if set via
front panel push buttons. It was saved if it was set via the Serial
"P/p" command. Either way, it's now fixed.

2. Power-up from loss of +12 acted differently from power-off via
"On/Off" button. Now the W2 will always power-up with the full LED and
Alarm relay test.

3. SWR LED Bargraph unusually sensitive. In SO2R stations with two
W2's, the idle W2's SWR Bargraph could have indicated a high SWR
condition due to detection of only reverse power sent back down the
Sensor from the 2nd xmitter. SWR display threshold based on Forward
Power was raised to correct this.

4. Serial port would not respond to first command after power-up.
Now fixed.

5. A serial "F/f" or "R/r" command sent immediately after power-up
but before feeding any RF through a Sensor would make the W2 appear to
reset itself. Also fixed.
