[Elecraft] setting bias on rp mic
Being a newbe to the list. My first question is while setting up the mic it says tap 1 or tap 2 to set bias but what do you tap? Question #2 is Setting Rec EQ how do you go from one setting to the other 7 settings? Please reply direct or via the list. Thanks for the help. Hi Jim, Tap 1, 2, etc. refers to the 12 button keypad. You'll see the numbers printed in red on each button. These buttons expand the functionality of several menu/configuration choices. 73, Mike K2MK James Navarre wrote Being a newbe to the list. Re: [Elecraft] setting bias on rp mic
Hi Jim, The number buttons are immediately to the right of the display on the K3 front panel (e.g. the A/B button is 1). Use numbers 1-8 to select the sub-bands when configuring RX/TX EQ. 73, ~iain / N6ML On Sun, Sep 2, 2012 at 8:59 AM, James Navarre k8...@yahoo.com wrote: Being a newbe to the list. Re: [Elecraft] setting bias on rp mic
Hi Ok setting the Bias for the mic is easy Tap the menu button and rotate the VFO b until it displays mic select. rotate VFO A to select the mic you are setting either FP or RP pressing the 1 (also labeled A/B), the number is in red, button will toggle between High and Low (H)igh boosts the mic level and L(ow) is no boostby tapping the 2 (also labeled REV) turns the 5V bias on or off. indicated with BIAS on the display For EQ just tap the number buttons 1 - 8 to switch between each of the eight different EQ frequencies and rotate the VFOA to adjust EQ level + or - The K3 can be a very confusing radio for the new owner and not so new owner as well including me.. I would strongly recommend purchasing Fred Cady's book The Elecraft K3 design, Configuration, and Operation. Fred who Frequently posts on the group, has written this book as an excellent expansion on the manual. It has many hints and explanations of the features and functions of the K3 that are easy to understand. It has bailed me out many times when I just don't understand whats going on. Its only available as a PDF here is his website. http://www.ke7x.com/ On 9/2/2012 11:59 AM, James Navarre wrote: Being a newbe to the list. Re: [Elecraft] setting bias on rp mic
Jim, I wrote a tiny program to set the three sets of EQ levels (rx, tx ssb, tx fm) at: http://udel.edu/~mm/ham/elecraft/ that might make it easier. I'm not sure if it works for Windows 64-bit - no time recently to verify all OSes - but should for Win 32, OSX, and linux. But if it works for you, you can't beat the price. :-) (free) 73, Mike ab3ap On 09/02/2012 11:59 AM, James Navarre wrote: [...]Question #2 is Setting Rec EQ how do you go from one setting to the other 7 settings? Re: [Elecraft] setting bias on rp mic
Hi, Is there a way to use your program to choose between two different RX EQ settings stored on disk? I want to find a way to quickly set the RX EQ to one setting suitable for USB and another for LSB. They need to be different because the crystal filter has a significant tilt in the passband making USB and LSB tonal balance different. Fortunately I use USB 99% of the time so I have set my RX EQ to compensate for the slightly sharp (upward tilt in passband) tonal quality but that makes LSB very soft sounding. Elecraft has obviously relegated this problem to the bottom of their todo list as no action has been seen in in over two years. If either an RX EQ command could be implemented or RX EQ settings could be stored per mode I could solve this problem in a flash but so far Elecraft has basically igtnored this as an issue. K3EZ provides the quickest change I can think of, with macro select. Hi, Is there a way to use your program to choose between two different RX EQ settings stored on disk? Re: [Elecraft] setting bias on rp mic
Hi Knut, At the moment it does not support this, but wouldn't be difficult to add. I am always willing to embarrass myself and share the Java source code. :-) As another mentioned, K3EZ is a more full featured program. Mine is bare bones and simple (which appeals to the minimalist in me). 73, Mike ab3ap On 09/02/2012 04:37 PM, ab2tc wrote: Hi, Is there a way to use your program to choose between two different RX EQ settings stored on disk?
