Re: [Elecraft] Unusual problem with KPA500
Hi Marv Are your K3 settings the cause of the problem? It does not sound like a KPA500 problem. I am not sure where the KAT500 fits in. [Elecraft] Unusual problem with KPA500
My problem only occurs on 160 meters. If the KPA500 is in stand-by I receive no signals on the K3S. Simply switching the amp to operate lets signals pass. I have tied different antennas jacks on the KAT500 and the problem remains. I sent an email to Elecraft support about a week ago and have not had a response. Anyone have any ideas? [Elecraft] unusual problem
Recently, I started noticing a strange sound from my K3-4290. When keying the rig on CW I'll hear a crackling or almost a gurgling sound coming from the radio itself. It's only happened 2 or at most 3 times but this morning I smelled something for the first time. It started happening right after I upgraded the firmware although I doubt there's a connection. I'm guessing a coil could be arcing, although as a person who is blind, I'm afraid I can't offer any visual data. Any thoughts? Re: [Elecraft] unusual problem
Sam, Not sure which accessory is the KXV3a. I do have the internal tuner and a G5RV and a tribander hooked to the A and B antenna jacks. I have no amp and use the G5RV most of the time. I should also mention that everytime this has happened, it's been right after turning the rig on after it has been sitting overnight in a chilly shack. It'll arc for a few seconds, only while transmitting, and then settle down. So far, I haven't noticed any other anomales in the operation of the rig. I had the KXV3A in mine and added an antenna to the RX ANT IN Then I transmitted on another antenna. Everything was fine when running 100w. Then I turned on my Ameritron AL-811 amp. When I transmitted I heard a sizzling sound, and smelled something burning. It turns out my RX antenna was to close to my TX antenna. The result was the GAP 1 melted the solder holding it. It then dropped on the top of the relays on the KXVA3 board. Since the GAP 1 is ceramic, the heat from it melted the plastic case on the relays, causing the burnt electronics smell. The rig continued to work, but the RX antenna no longer worked. Perhaps this is your problem?
