Re: [Elecraft] Ear Buds with Microphone

2017-10-11 Thread Steve Sergeant
I bought the parts to make the adapter cable to use my cell-phone
earbuds on my KX2. I haven't built it yet.

I suspect that your voice won't be quite as full and up-front with the
earbuds mic vs. some other, but if you really need to travel light, it
should work.

RE: [Elecraft] Ear Buds

2005-04-07 Thread Craig Rairdin
I know this has been discussed on the reflector, but I can't find it in
the archives after a bit of searching. I have the RS equivalent of the
Koss Ear Plugs which work great on my KX1 for an old guy who can't hear
any more. However, I can't get them into my ears so they'll stay for
 any length of time.

Leave it to all you hardcore kit builders and home brewers to carve up ear
plugs and turn this into a project. :-)

I use these at the gym and they're fantastic:

They're from Sony and they're $40. They fit nicely in the ear and block out
background noise. They have good frequency response. I've tried other
earbuds and I don't understand what species they're designed for. These
Sonys fit right into the ear canal. They're great.

Re: [Elecraft] Ear buds fo rthe KX-1

2004-11-27 Thread Paul - VE1DY
Hi Rich...

They were the Sony earbuds 120 dB/mW. I couldn't find the exact one,
so I bought the Sony MDR-EX51LP (100dB/mW). Plenty loud and they are
the most comfortable earbuds ever. Only thing I find, you can hear your
own breathing if signals are weak, and if you take you eyes off the
cord, it will tie itself in a knot!

Remember for comfort (important), they are second to none!

Hi Richard;

I think you are refering to The Plug by Koss.
Many sites are selling them including ebay.

Here is a link to one of the sites:

Page 62 of the KX-1 manual recommends Sony MDR or equivalent with a
sensitivity of 108 dB/mW.

Re: [Elecraft] Ear-buds for KX1

2004-09-17 Thread Eberhart, Russell
I agree that The Plug by Koss are acceptable earbuds. They are rated
at 110 db. I wear hearing aids, so need the best I can find. If anyone
knows about any earbuds better than the Koss ones, I'd appreciate
hearing about it. (Pun intended.)

BTW, worked Antarctica from Indianapolis on the KX1 running about 3.3
watts to a long wire last night.

The Plug by Koss gives me all the sound I can stand. Great for portable work
since they are very
small.

Re: [Elecraft] Ear-buds?

2004-09-16 Thread Stuart Rohre
Don, there is a sensitivity rating on the better quality earbuds packages.
Some of the Sony models are quite efficient among others. The cheap
unlisted specs models vary all over the place. Plus, the insulation gets
stiff on the Dollar store brands.

Re: [Elecraft] Ear-buds?

2004-09-16 Thread Gil Stacy
Don, I have both Sony earbuds and The Plug by Koss. The Sony’s may have
slightly higher mfg. reported sensitivity, but the The Plug has a sound
channel that goes deeper into the ear. The Plug has silicone buds that seal
out ambient noise. The Sony’s don’t seal.
There used to be a website that offered plug mods on The Plug, butmy link is
dead. Koss has improved the silicone plugs from earlier editions and each
set now comes with several different styles of plugs. I find myself using
the Koss more than the Sony. I have read that some ear shapes don’t easily
accommodate the silicone plugs, however.
