RE: [Elecraft] KUSB question

2008-07-13 Thread Dick Dievendorff
The KUSB is a USB to Serial adapter cable, about 6' long, with a USB
connector on one end and a shell containing a DB-9 connector and some
electronics on the other end. If 6' is long enough for you, then that's all
you need.

There's a picture of the KUSB in the K3 Utility Help. You can install the
K3 Utility from the Elecraft web site before your K3 arrives.

Subject: [Elecraft] KUSB question

Greetings everyone,
I'll be receiving my K3 tomorrow afternoon and I had a question in regards
to cabling for firmware updates. I ordered the KUSB as I don't have a
serial
port on my laptop. Does the KUSB adapter include a cable and if not, what
kind of cable will I need? (standard straight-through RS232, etc.)

Thanks!

Thanks Dick! I didn't realize the cable was included as part
of the adapter. Perfect.

Try it and see if it works. There is nothing unique about the Elecraft one
apart from the fact that they have tested it and support it. But yours might
work, and might even have the same chipset and use the same drivers.

More likely than not it'll work if you've had previous success.

The KUSB is tested with every K3 Utility revision, but no USB to Serial
Adapter is intentionally excluded.
