Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 update?

2010-12-12 Thread Bruce McLaughlin
I seem to remember that Elecraft said it was currently in field tests. I
also think a possible February, 2011 date was mentioned as a sales target.
I'm sure that is subject to revision, depending upon the outcome of the
field tests as well as the usual hassle in setting up the new production
line. But I believe it is definitely going to happen and not in the very
distant future but not, unfortunately, in time for this Christmas.

2010-12-12 Thread Doug Faunt N6TQS +1-510-655-8604
Having seen some other possibilities, I'm not going to go for them.

I got some bandwidth downtown and read the ARRL review of the SPE, and
it's not an amp for a RTTY op, which I am.

I'd cheerfully pay for a burger (I mean KPA500) now, for delivery later,
as I did with the K3, especially if I could get #22 to match my K3.

BTW, we visited VK9NL and got the station sorted, so she'll be on the
air again for the first time since VK9NS's death.

2010-12-12 Thread Leigh L. Klotz Jr WA5ZNU

I saw a KPA500 at a local club meeting recently where Eric WA6HHQ was proudly
showing it off.
They do indeed seem to be treating it as a serious product on the way.
The slides has the obligatory not yet type accepted warning of course.

It's definitely well on the way to completion. Several members of local
clubs work for Elecraft as part of the engineering team, and are busily
doing the final work to get it in production. Things like quantity
shipments of the needed parts, training the crew to build it, FCC type
acceptance testing, etc.

Ah, who needs that stuff? I just had my first QSO on my new homebrew amplifier:
900 watts
out from a pair of class-C 813's! Instant on and full QSK. Of course it has
separate grid
and plate bandswitches and three tuning controls to adjust, one of which is a
multiturn
vacuum capacitor, but it's imposing as all get out with four analog meters (2
of which are
super-cool Western Electric center-adjust types).
