Re: [Elecraft] New Firmware MCU 3.79

2010-03-21 Thread Dave, G4AON
I keep the beta zip files in the directory, when there is a new version
to test I delete the 8 extracted files from the last zip and extract the
contents from the latest zip. That way there is little chance of
confusion between versions and it's easy to store the various releases
without creating a lot of directories.

73 Dave, G4AON

Thanks Dick, I stand corrected.
Even though the older versions are not discarded, is it possible to load
a prior version of the firmware from that one folder? If so, how is
that specified?

My experience with this is limited. I am one of the firmware field
testers and download my firmware from an entirely different source.

2010-03-21 Thread Dick Dievendorff
The K3 Utility finds the highest version of each firmware file in the
folder. If the mist recent rev is problematic, remove it or rename it
perhaps by changing it's extension. I don't provide any help in
matching MCU to DSP revisions tho.

Several FTers and customers have never used the K3 Utility's normal
FTP mechanism. It is supposed to be really easy!

Re: [Elecraft] New Firmware MCU 3.79

2010-03-20 Thread Don Wilhelm
Steve,

If you tried looking on the Elecraft website and did not see it, you may
have to refresh your browser. Click the Firmware and SW link on the
left, then select the K3 Firmware page - Release 3.79 should be at the
top of the box on that page.
If you have K3Utility pointed to detect new firmware on the Elecraft FTP
site, it should detect that version and download it if you elect to do
that. See the K3Utility Help page if you have trouble setting it up to
automatically notify you of new firmware available.

The firmware is NOT show as a 3r79.zip file and a brower refresh doesn't
change the situation. This is different from all of the previous releases.
If you want to download and save version 3.79 you need to create a new
folder and transfer all of the required files into that folder. This will
create an archive for previous versions. Going directly to the Elecraft
website via the K3 Utility does not create an archive folder.

Re: [Elecraft] New Firmware MCU 3.79

2010-03-20 Thread Don Wilhelm
Elliot,

It sounds like you are attempting to use the procedure for downloading
beta releases.
The .zip file was most likely removed when it was no longer considered a
beta version. The release versions have always been downloaded by K3
Utility into the folder (you can choose that folder - make a new one and
point K3 Utility to it). The prior release version if present in that
target folder will be discarded.

I just tried it - Make a new folder for the MCU3r79 firmware somewhere
on your computer, then open K3 Utility and click the Browse button and
navigate to your new folder - then click OK. Back on the K3 Utility
window, check the Copy New Firmware from Elecraft into Local Folder
and then click the Check New Versions Now - the firmware will be
downloaded.
If you want to archive each release, you will have to create a different
folder for that release - K3 Utility does not archive releases.
The beta versions are released as a .zip file that you must download,
unzip into a folder and then point K3 Utility to that folder.
