Re: [Elecraft] Two Button Press Timing

Could I just ask people to put K3 or K2 or KX1 in the subject line of their
posts please.
Took me a few minutes to realise I hadn't missed something in my K3 manual and
this post related to KX1 :-)

I'm sorry about that Dave, I had read that one should put the model in the
subject line but I forgot. I was listing my question in the KX1 section of
the forum and putting KX1 in the header just slipped by, I'll make sure to
do it correctly next time.

No problem George, we all forget sometimes, hence a gentle reminder to the list
now and then.

Had me going for a while until I thought about it and realised the Band RIT
buttons are on opposite sides of the front panel on a K3 - very difficult to
press both with one hand.

I hope Don helped with his reply.

I totally agree. I f post about the K3 I do, but if someone doesn't and I
change the subject, that breaks the thread on threaded email clients that don't
use message id to maintain the thread.

Re: [Elecraft] Two Button Press Timing

2010-03-20 Thread Don Wilhelm
George,

The 2 button press is always like a HOLD (there is no 2 button TAP),
except you do it to 2 buttons at once. I use two fingers of one hand.
It may take a little practice. As many times as I have done that 2
button press, I occasionally miss the window, especially on the mode
change using the outermost 2 buttons - I sometimes get RIT on and have
to turn RIT off and try again - so just watch the display to be certain
you got it right.

I really don't know how much time-spacing is allowed between the
detection of the first button pressed and the second one, but I am
certain the time is shorter than 1 second.

I get the Tap (press and release) idea, and I'm assuming the Hold is
 probably programmed for 1 second?

Does anyone know what the button delay configuration is for the Two Button
Functions? I get it right about 50 % of the time so maybe if I understand
what it is expecting that will help me.

Yup, that is what I'd like to find out. I'm sure with more use I'll get the
hang of it, but it seems more touchy then I have seen on other devices. Is
the person who wrote the firmware for the KX1 still around? I would still
like to find out how this button press sequence is designed to be used.

tnx

George,

Yes, the person who wrote the firmware is still around - none other than
Wayne Burdick.
That question would have to be addressed by Wayne. I don't know if he
is paying attention to this thread or not.
If he does not pick up on it in few days, perhaps a direct email would
provide the answer.
