Hi Vic;

You can build a roll off filter with some caps and an inductor or two. Look
at an old "ARRL Handbook" for this info. I'm not sure if the newer Handbooks
cover this topic.

The trouble with these is that they are monaural. Stereo is important
because I want to investigate binaural modes for CW, such as putting the
I and Q outputs of a quadrature sampling detector into each ear, etc.

The Yaesu phones are stereo but the frequency range is important so I
can get rid of the external DSP I'm using to kill sidetone thumps and
clicks.

I use the KOSS PortaPro headphones.
I found them to be lightweight and easy to drive with low audio.
Also easy to collapse for that mountaintrip or camping.
Very nice audio.
Low cost quality , at least here in Norway.

Re: [Elecraft] Yaesu YH77STA & K2

2006-08-04 Thread Joe-aa4nn

I sometimes plug my YH77ST headsets into my PC phones out, which
is stereo, and put a music CD in the drive and listen to some great stereo
music. I don't know about the 20Khz upper response but the "highs" and
"lows" I hear are quite high fidelity. Certainly much broader than the
100-5000HZ. Plus, they are amazing CW receptors as well.
de Joe, aa4nn

Do you know what the frequency response of these 'phones is? Are they
the usual 20Hz - 20Khz "hi-fi" type, or do they have a more limited
response, like 100-5000 Hz?.

Icom has some light weight communications type head phones. I think the

Bernie, etal,

Yaesu YH77STA headphones are lightweight
and very comfortable. I have used them for
many years at home as well as on DXpedition
with a K2 working those gruelling 3 to 4-hour
shifts of pileups. I don't wear them covering
my ear but pushed slightly forward. Great
sound from those beautiful CW tones. I have
no idea how they sound on that other mode.

Hi Bernie

I use Yaesu YH77STA with my K2 (2746) and I love them, I am not sure what
Pro's and Cons you refer to but I prefer a light pair of phones and these
are ideal from my point of view, the only other pair of earphones I have
used on the K2 were Heil and I found those to be very claustrophobic if
that is the correct word they shut everything out!
