Re: [Emc-developers] Moving closer to embedded

2015-12-30 Thread Thomas Gambone II
Neil,

Are you using an off the shelf A20 board, or did you spin your own?

As for your distro, what was your approach?

Did you start from scratch / Linux From Source approach,
ending up with your development copy being nearly identical to the
production copy?

OR

Did you start with a light / customizable distro like gentoo, which has
package management maintained on the dev side.
Then you copy a subset of the system to create your production distro?

Continuing Jepler's work with the Odroid boards or similar to make a robust
embedded controller appliance with LinuxCNC would be excellent to learn.

Thank you,
-Tom

Thank you for the offer to support, EBo!

With gentoo, I've gotten into it on the Odroid C1, though not too
successfully.
Can't figure out some quirkiness with slow booting that happens.

May be worth staring another thread to discuss.

Will revisit my unfinished attempt and loop back.

Thank you,

Re: [Emc-developers] call for maintainers for keystick and mini guis

2015-12-30 Thread Thomas Gambone II
Hey All,

So, got LCNC master from github:jepler built, on Debian 8.2 (latest Jessie).

mini appears to work, not 100% tested yet.

keystick won't start. Not sure why, do I need a curses library? It built.
Don't see anything in the log that is very helpful, will post output later.

Has the github mirror become the official repo?
The source link on the new homepage directs to jepler's github mirror.

Is it OK to submit pull requests to it, or should the linuxcnc.org one be
used?

Sebastian,

Thank you for clarification.
I will take a look at the current state.

Am I correct in saying that I will need to do the following:

Build, test and perhaps fix the UI's on the master branch.
Backport this work into joints-axes branch, if any issues fix, and retest
on both branches.

[Emc-developers] LinuxCNC on ARM + Mesa

2015-08-14 Thread Thomas Gambone II
Hello all!

First time mailing back to the list.

Wanted to ask the list / Jeff Epler a couple specific questions related to
his work on the ARM platform (Odroid U3) + Mesa 7i90 (SPI).

In looking through the available daughter cards from Mesa, there's nothing
quite as nice as the 7i76, 7i77, or 7i78 (DB25) boards available with the
HD50 interface (kind used by 7i90).

Notably, I don't see any card in the HD50 family that has built in stepgen.

What card(s) can you recommend to use with the 7i90 for general 3-axis+ CNC
control.

As well, in reading the detailed version of Jeff's blog post regarding the
Odroid U3 (http://emergent.unpythonic.net/odroid-u3), he mentions that
because the ethernet connection on the board is connected via USB[2.0] it
is no good for use with hostmot2_eth.

I've got a new XU4, which is basically the U3, with a beefier octa-core
processor (still Samsung Exynos) and USB3.0 ports. The ethernet is hooked
in via USB3.0 and is gigabit on this board.

Would it be possible to use a hostmot2_eth board (like the 7i76E) with a
USB3.0 to gigabit ethernet connection?

Thank you,
-Tom
