Re: Laser Safety
Matt: In this case only interlocks can be applicable because practically somebody can get in danger with 3b laser (worse case). According to IEC, class 3b lasers have to have safety doors (interlocks). Can automatic power reduction be used if you are not pumping the laser to a 3b class level of power. In other words, can we not put interlocks on the system if the 3b laser power has been reduced to a 3a or class 1 level through microprocessor limitating it? Or is their single fault concerns if the microprocessor fails? Re: (Assault and) Batteries (On The Planet) ...
Terry, Mike and other readers: Thank you for your very refreshing display of common sense and integrity. After reading reams of law and standards in all variations, I was ready to give up on this community. Everybody was attempting to split over again some already split legalistic hairs, but yours was the first contribution that really went for the core. I was tempted to submit as a motto for all this uproar the undying words of J.R. Ewing (you do remember Dallas, don't you?): Once you give up on integrity, everything else comes easy. Re: Status of Frequency extension of EN 61000-4-3

I am looking for the status of a frequency extension to EN 6100-4-3 radiated Immunity. EN 61000-4-3:1997 lists 80 MHz to 1 GHz as the test frequency range. Is anyone aware of the Radiated Immunity requirements being extended to 3 Ghz or higher sometime in the near future. Nothing proposed yet, AFAIK. It would require a New Work Proposal to IEC SC77B, I think, to amend IEC/EN61000-4-3, and we have not seen one. If there are any drafts proposing this can you list the draft number. Finally, if no present plans exist could anyone venture a prediction for when and if the radiated Immunity frequency will be extended.
